Time: 1752.

Jack

"Jackie! Jackie!" His little sister shouted, jumping up and down on his bed.

"Willow..." He let out a groan, trying to fall back asleep.

She had a habit of waking up at the most random times and jumping around his room.

He really couldn't blame her though.
She was only 10 years old.

Still annoying.

"Wake up Jack!" She begged tugging his blankets off.

He curled up in a ball for warmth.
It didn't matter if it was spring time or that the sun was shining.
It was still cold as hell...in the mornings anyway.

Maybe I should wear a shirt to bed next time...

Naturally he'd be in good spirits in the mornings, but studying astronomy last night for class had take away a few hours that he should have spent sleeping, and inevitably took a toll on his mood.

Which was dumb because Jack found no interest in astronomy, but his desire to impress his teacher and (mostly) parents had kept him awake long enough.

-

A good ten minutes of Willow's hyper-ness had passed when a servant walked through the door.

Elise.

"Oh goodness, sorry your
highness. You're um door was open so I just uh assumed you were uh awake," She sputtered out, looking at the shirtless boy.

"It's alright Elise," he let out a chuckle, finally picking up his sister and laying on top of her as she burst into a fit of laughter.

"Jackie you're crushing me," Willow giggled, squirming around.

He put more body weight on her, causing the child to laugh even more.

"You're parents are waiting for you downstairs your highness," Elise interrupted as she opened up the curtains.

Forget them, I'd rather talk to you.

"You know, I'd much rather have you call me Jack, we've been friends for a good 15 years now," he smiled toward her, trying to change the subject.

"Old habits die hard I guess," she returned the gesture.

"Well it's a habit you should kill, it sounds so strange when you say 'your highness' don't you agree?"

"Well, you are a prince, and I am a servant."

"Oh don't be so dramatic," he let out a chuckle, "we're friends."

"Don't think the King and Queen would approve of you letting me call you without a title."

Title.
What a strange way to put it.

"They never approve of anything I do anyhow," he shrugged.

"Well, you should get down to the kitchen Jack, wouldn't want to keep your parents waiting."

"I'll keep that in mind, have a good rest of your morning Elise."

"You as well."

-

He studied her body movements as she walked out his door.

The way her hips swayed along with her dress, as if it had some internal rhythm.
And her dark hair, set in a braid, nothing short of perfect.

"Jack?" His little sister, who had now stopped struggling asked from below.

"Yeah?" He looked down.

"Do you still like Elise?"

It took him a moment to respond.

"No."

Yes.
