it was a very wet day in New York City. no sign of sun for miles and water pouring down in buckets, soaking everything. The school stood tall and proud against the vicious onslaught of wind and rain. Though it wasn't much to look at. A few one story buildings scattered throughout the grounds. a fair size football field. grass covered in mud. all this surrounded by a weathered iron fence. Insignificant and small compared to the skyscrapers that loomed above. It's sinister appearance dominated the surrounding land.
Through the storm one could just make out a black rolls royce making its way towards the academy ,an unusual sight anywhere, especially unusual in modern day new york. If one squinted ones eyes and looked very carefully into the pelting rain one could just make out three figures inside said car. two adults, both obviously upper class and one adolescent . the male dressed in a well fitted suit. as clean and pristine as could be. his greying brown hair greased back. his stern face focused on the strenuous task of navigating his way towards the school. the two females appeared to be having a very loud argument. finally after much shouting. the teenager in the back slumped down in her seat. while the other woman (presumably her mother) turned back around. a smug look on her makeup caked face.
slowly the vehicle pulled up in front of the school. ignoring her mothers request for a proper goodbye the red headed teenager pushed open the door and, shrugging on her tattered blue backpack trekked onwards. leaving her mother to twist and close the door behind her. within seconds her ginger hair was soaked. along with everything else. "just brilliant" she muttered as she passed through the twin glass doors. and glumly trudged towards the reception. leaving muddy footprints behind from her combat boots.
the receptionist, a pretty blonde around mid 20s, sat behind the curved modern stone desk filing her nails. all perfectly manicured. "ahem" the teen cleared her throat loudly. silence. she tried again. nothing. "oy!" she yelled ; her english accent coming through strong, snapping her fingers in front of the blondes face. obviously taken aback by the redheads actions the receptionist looked up but she quickly recovered. "theres no need to be rude" she said obnoxiously. "whatever" muttered the teenager. she then continued expressionlessly "i'm Scarlet Grey. i need to see the headmistress" the blonde stared at her like she was speaking ancient greek. "the who know?" harped the blonde in her annoyingly high pitched voice . sighing the teenager henceforth known as scarlet asked impatiently "what is it you americans call them?" she paused and thought for a moment then continued "the person incharge?" realization dawned on the blondes face "ohh... you mean the principal. what you want him for?" sighing Scarlet banged her head against the counter. "you ok miss?" the bleached and slightly thick blond asked.
thankfully for Scarlet who right now looked like she wanted to die, at that very moment in walked a young man around 15. brown hair styled David Tennant style. grey blue eyes staring out. "sorry i'm late" he stated in a tone that implied he was't sorry at all, he stopped noticing the redheads expression. "ah i see you've met Ms Johnson" after saying this he gave Ms Johnson a flirtatious grin. to which she returned an even wider one. complete with fluttering eyes. 'ug i think im going to be sick' thought Scarlet as she faked gagging sounds. the receptionist glared at her,. "i'm Jack" stated the teen.sticking out his hand to the ginger. she scowled "charmed" she replied gently pushing his hand away. Jack just shrugged it off and instead turned to the receptionist "Ms Johnston looking lovely as always" "James how nice to see you. might i ask what you're doing here?" she asked in her sickly sweet voice. Widening her already creepy smile. Scarlet started faking vomiting as he replied. Jake/James frown for a sec then continued noncholantly "just here to pick up scarlet." as he finished james/jack turned to her giving her a smile that he probably thought should have made her swoon. but scarlett wasn't buying it. "oh bite me lovers boy" james just smiled wider. He bowed and doffed an imaginary hat, and with a obviously faked british accent asked "may i have the pleasure of accompanying the young miss grey to the principle's office" he asked sticking out his arm. scarlet merely stuck out her tongue and started walking towards the only other exit. Halfway there she pivoted on her heel and looked at james and asked, well more like demanded "are you coming or what?" he smiled and rushed to catch up leaving a gobsmacked miss johnson behind.
the motley duo made their way through the deserted hallway "why do you go by jack not james?" asked scarlet turning to face him. james's handsome face contorted into a scowl "no reason" he replied indifferently, through the scowl on his face proved otherwise. "there's always a reason" replied scarlet solemnly. james sighed "i guess its because james is too snotty you know?". scarlet turned back and looked forwards. and started to examine the hallway. the floor was scuffed and worn . their footsteps echoing off the walls. the white paint chipped and peeling and lockers bearing the marks of a beating to many. at the end of the hallway was a large wooden door that scarlet assumed was the principals office. the door was made of solid wood and stood proud and tall looming over the two students. the two stood there for what seemed a millenium in the deathly silence of the hallway till a shrill ringing pierced the stillness. james turned and looked at Scarlet quizzically as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. "uh huh.....uh huh... a woman is dead and you're asking me about my flight! uh huh I'll be right there." and with that she turned on her heel and raced towards the exit. "ay where you going?" yelled James chasing after her. she didn't reply leaving him to stare after her and eventually as her silhouette disappeared trudge back to class
