It was a stressful day for Katya, but probably every other drag queen in that building thought the same thing. DragCon weekend always meant being in some kind of discomfort for more time than one could probably handle, smiling all day and trying to act as nice as you can to every person who chose to spend their time standing in line to meet you.
Trixie & Katya were sat signing autographs before their panel. Comparing it with previous years, this year things were going a bit smoother, so far. At some point, Katya heard little mumbles that sounded a little too pitchy for an adult. She never really knew how to act around kids in drag, worried that perhaps the environment of the events were inappropriate for them. But that wasn't really the case today, gladly.
"To whom should I sign these for?" Katya asked as
she reached for the next merchandise that needed to be signed. At this point in the game, mainly focusing on the piece of paper in front of her."To- uhm, Brian..." A shy voice replied, something about it, the tone or enunciation, felt somehow really familiar to Katya. She smiled to herself, even the name was the same.
"Trix, why are you just sitting there?" She questioned after noticing that Trixie's not signing the merch she was passing along, she was frozen, just staring. But Katya did not bother that much about it at first as her attention was still mainly on the merch.
Trixie looked at her coworker and friend as it seemed like she was comparing two pictures. She thought that it was best to brush it off, the thought was impossible... But what if it wasn't? She would however, occasionally look up.
"That's your name too, isn't it?" The boy asked. Katya ignored the fact that the question wouldn't be that appropriate normally, giving the kid a pass.
"It is, actually" She said with a bright tone.
"Yeah... I was named after you" The boy told.
"Excuse me, what?!" Katya asked before looking up.
What she saw next shocked her. It was as if she was looking in her reflection, out of drag that is.
A blue-eyed, blonde little version of her. Standing by his side was a quiet little girl, whom seemed to be the same age as him. But not only that, she also looked exactly like someone very important from Katya's past. Someone just as beautiful as the girl standing in front of her now.
"Move along. You're holding up the line!" Katya's attention is brought back to the moment by someone complaining as she's still looking at the kids in front of her with a puzzled expression.
"Sorry..." The younger Brian mumbled before moving along with the girl.
"Please tell me you're also seeing this" Katya said through gritted teeth.
"I am" Trixie answered, looking at her in pure shock.
"What the fuck am I supposed to do?" Katya whispered, in full desperation.
"Brandon will watch them" Trixie said, searching for her assistant with her eyes as Katya nodded.
"Wait here for a sec" She told them, before Brandon brought them to a more quiet and reserved place.
Katya went through a whole range of emotions as she tried to be professional and keep doing her job, as well as trying to manage her racing mind. After they finally got the work done, they left the table as they had a little break before their panel started. Both queens made a beeline to a sort of green room close to the auditorium they'd be heading next.
"What. The. Actual. Fuck?" Trixie started as they entered the elevator, accompanied by Katya's assistant, while Trixie's unexpectedly became a babysitter. Katya stood there with her jaw hanging, but unable to start an actual sentence.
"Brian, is there a possibility of this being true?" Trixie asked carefully, not sure of how to approach this. Katya nodded through a gulp.
"It's not impossible" She replied in a trembling tone.
Trixie sighed in astonishment, taking Katya's hand as she squeezed it, showing her support. They got out of the elevator and started walking down the hallway that led to the green room.
"Are you sure they're here?" Katya asked once they got near the door.
"Yes" Eden responded.
"What am I supposed to do?" Katya panicked again.
"Only one way to find out..." Trixie said. "Go on
Kat, open the door" She encouraged.Closing her eyes momentarily and letting out a deep breath, Katya did so. The two kids sat on one of the couches as Brandon seemed to be trying his best to keep them entertained, and apparently succeeding as they appeared to be really invested in whatever they were talking about. The sound of heels against the floor caught the pair's attention. She sat on the couch facing back from the door, looking closely at their faces as she fell into another existential crisis.
"Brian, right?" She started, gripping the couch as to hold onto something to try and calm her nerves down. He nodded, growing shy.
"And what's your name, sweetheart?" Katya tried her best to sound friendly and welcoming, not wanting to scare the kids by the weight being put on her.
"Sophie" She answered quietly, Katya smiled to herself for the second time that day.
"As in Da Vinci Code?" She asked to be sure, despite already knowing the answer deep down.
"Oh my God, yes!" She's surprised by Katya's words and was quick to explain. "Well, at first mom thought it would be cute to name us Brian and Brianna, us being twins and all. But then she remembered this book she read in high school that made her develop a liking to the name Sophie. So she named me Sophie. So, Sophie. My name is Sophie."
"He got his looks and she got his quirks..." Brandon commented and the rest nodded in agreement as they stood behind Katya.
"Twins, right?" Katya repeated the information out loud, trying to process it all. The twins nodded.
"How old are you guys?" Trixie asked, noticing Katya being silent for longer than usual.
"Nine..." Katya answered, not doubting anything. It all made sense. "You guys are about nine, right?"
"How did you know?" Sophie questioned.
"I did the math" She gave them a faint smile.
"So you believe us?" The youngest Brian in the room asked, shocking Katya again at the voice similarity.
"I... think I do, actually. But how? How did you find me? How do you know about me?" She lets her turbulent mind take control over her words. "How did your mother even let you meet me?" Katya felt a lump in her throat at the mention of their mother as she walked up to them, kneeling herself so that she could be closer and look more approachable.
"She doesn't know..." The younger boy revealed.
"What?" Katya panicked.
Suddenly the door just about bursts open as security accompanies a desperate woman. She ran to them, looking absolutely petrified, not even bothering to look at her surroundings. And suddenly all eyes in the room were fixated on her, including Katya's.
"I told you guys not to go too far without me" She started. "I've been looking for you for the past 30 minutes and nothing. Not having the faintest idea of what could have happened to you. Don't ever do this again, understood?" She scolded them.
She breathed in for a second as they nodded, calming down her nerves. Katya looked up at the person standing by his side, his heart racing inside his chest as everything fell into place. Her eyes met his and it looked like she stopped breathing for that short moment, not wanting to believe it was true.
"Brian?" The world stood still for the both of them.
"(Y/N)..." His eyes held a certain glint, not actually believing who was standing in front of him.
