It was a rainy day when I first begged for someone to stay. My boy bestfriend chose his girl who always cheats to him over me. Even if I tried to let him stay, he always find a way to leave.
I ended up crying the whole night at my room. I like him not just as my friend. No, I love him more than that.
Without my awareness, the door suddenly opened. It revealed my dad who’s drinking his hot choco again. Well, it’s a rainy night. That’s his favorite.
I wiped out my endless tears and pretend that I’m okay. I can handle this. I don’t want him to worry about me.
“Anak, kanina pa ako katok nang katok sa kuwarto mo. Hindi mo naman binubuksan.” He came near me to sat on the bed.
“S-Sorry dad, m-may ginagawa kasi ako e.” I went back from the study table then opened my favorite novel and turned its pages as if I was browsing for the best part.
My heart almost jumped out when he came closer and put his hand on my shoulder that made me flinched.
“Liar. Narinig kong humihikbi ka. Is there a problem? Care to share it with me?”
I shook my head.
“Really? You know, Cindy, you can’t easily fool me by that look.”
Rolling my eyes, I admitted, “‘Di ko kayang magsinungaling at maglihim, okay na ba daddy?”
Okay, I give up. Wala na akong choice. Malakas sa akin si daddy, e.
He might seem aloof and unapproachable at times but he’s unquestionably the perfect one to lean on to.
Napatakip ako ng mukha. “Dad, nakakahiya kasi about love ‘to.” Sharing love problems with your dad is so embarrassing. Well, for me.
“Ba’t ka mahihiya, e tatay mo naman ako. Dumaan din naman ako sa stage na ganyan katulad ng sa’yo. Kahit nga ‘yung mommy mo hanggang ngayon tiklop pa rin sa akin, e.” He admitted it with blissfulness.
And the way he smiled at me shouts his huge admiration towards mom that made it undeniably astonishing.
“I have a boy bestfriend, 8 years na kaming magkaibigan,” panimula ko.
“So? Did it ended up as ‘magka-ibigan’ or so whatsoever?”
Direct to the point, huh.
“Sadly, no. We didn’t ended up like that. Sabi niya if friends lang, hanggan do’n lang. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Oh, so you got friendzoned. Ah, I knew it.” Kunot noo niyang sagot. Napasimsim naman ulit siya sa kanyang iniinom.
"Dad, he chose his girlfriend over me,” I paused then continued, “even if he already caught her cheating.”
“Can I ask?” tanong ko.
He nodded.
“Sort of... but for him, his girl is enough no matter what it takes. M
Nakangiti naman niya akong tinignan.
“‘Kami nga ng mommy mo, cool off at break up ang habit pero sa’kin pa rin ‘yun bumalik.”
“Really? Ba’t ‘di ko alam ‘yan?”
“‘Di ka naman nagtatanong.”
“Nag-w’work pala ‘yung comeback.”
“Para sa’min, kahit ilang comeback pa ‘yan, oo. Depende na rin kasi sa iba kung kaya pa nila isalba e. Ginugusto kasi namin subukan ulit. Pinipiling hanapin muna ang sarili para kapag handa na, wala nang pag-aalinlangan.”
“Baka kasi kung kailan p’wede na, p’wede pa at nangyari na nga, nandito ka.”
“I know to myself that I’m already the best. I’m nurturing myself to be a better person for the other people’s impression.
“Hindi ba dapat para sa sarili mo?
"How? Eh, hindi niya nga ako gusto, dad?" naguguluhan kong tanong. Kung totoo man ang sinabi niya, ba't hindi ako pinili ng bestfriend ko?
"That guy isn't the one for you. So, stop questioning your worth, okay. Darling, you are worth it. You are precious like any girl in this world. Stop hoping for him. Stop chasing him.
Don't expect for a fairytale stories to be out in real life. Kung nasanay kang kinukuwentuhan kita parati nun then I'm sorry. I just want you to be happy and be positive in life. But 'wag mong totohanin ang mga ganun. Believe me, it doesn't truly exist," seryoso niyang sambit.
Akala ko tapos na siya magsalita. May pahabol pa pala dahil special ako.
"Saka ka na sumugal kapag totoo na. Hindi ka namin pinalaki ng mommy mo para maging isang option. Tandaan mo 'yan." Hinalikan naman ako ni daddy sa noo.
I was speechless. May tinatagong sweetness pala 'tong si daddy!
"The right guy will find you. Trust me. Matulog ka na, good night darling." Inayos na niya ang kumot ko. Tinurn off na niya switch at lumabas na ng aking kuwarto.
Maybe my bestfriend isn't the right guy for me.
