He gave up his life. By the time they found a shore suitable for mooring, they were already well into the afternoon. He watched Gil with half an eye, who was spying on the unknown. Gil didn't want to go ashore. If he wants to be honest, he didn't feel much like it either. That's when he heard João's voice from the bow of the ship. The Portuguese, "born to the Sea", was lying half-hanging over the taffrail.
If anyone tells him on departure, the Portuguese gets seasick halfway through, he would have without hesitation. But it happened. João stared at the waves lapping at the side of the ship with an ashen face.
- When do we go on shore, Sir? – He almost said that tomorrow, but João wasn't the only one suffering the journey. Plus, their supply of water and food is almost completely ran short.
In short, apart from him and the knight there was no one able to work.
- Gilbert, are you coming with me? – The young knight nodded reflexively, if his guess was right. If he had thought about is before, he would have said no. So the two of them went ashore with a few water flask and 2 daggers.
Entering the forest, after a few meters the "road" closed behind them. Even the light of the afternoon sun barely penetrated the leaves. He's not one who can be scared easily, but now all his senses were focused on his surroundings. There was something sinister about this place.
After a few hours of wandering, he got an idea of what it could be.
Gilbert froze beside him and that was made him stop too.
- What the hell is this? – He didn't know, but whatever it was, all him hair stand on end. Especially since the longer he looked at the statue, the more he felt that it was looking back at him.
- It's creeping me out. – He didn't dispute Gilbert's remark. Moreover it was suspiciously human shaped. However, since no drinkable water was found yet, they continued their search. (??)
- Antonio, let's turn back slowly. – The growing lack of light also urged them.
- Let's hurry. – A few minutes later however, their jaws dropped. They literally went 100 meters when they found the source. The spring fed a beautiful little pond, with a huge unknown kind of trees on them on its shore.
They've got water.
But there was a little problem.
They did not know the way back to the ship.
Meanwhile the afternoon turned into dusk(nightfall).
The canopy of the trees turned a deep purple, and the bottom of the sky glowed red.
- If we weren't in knee deep of sh*t, I'd watch it for a while longer. –He spoke his thoughts out loud.
Gil also smiled at first, his expression changed. He looked into his eyes a little alarmed.
- It's too quiet. – His mind was still processing this sentence when they heard it.
A agonized scream to break the silence of the forest. By the time he blinked, he already had the dagger in his hand and on his back felt the comforting warmth of Gil's back.
- Tony?
- Let's go.
- But.... – The scream rang out again, but this time it was different. The trees answered to the sound, dancing terrifyingly in front of them. Their branches reached out like menacing arms, the leaves in turn, waiting for them, like daggers dripping with blood.
He wasn't thinking. He grabbed Gilbert's arm and ran in the opposite direction.
To the heart's content, he forthwith to be making off shore, but that is impossible now. On more scores than one:
