Grover happened to be heading to new York too. or so he claimed. since the incident with Harley the bird lady Gon and I were both sure he and Mr. Brunner were keeping an eye on us. of course they tried to deny it. acted like I had somehow hallucinated the whole incident. but neither I or Gon are stupid enough to fall for that. But both Grover and Mr. Brunner seemed pretty harmless. at least neither of them ever triggered my survival instincts.
But then our bus broke down. as were waiting by the side of the road Gon points out a fruit stand across the street.
"I thought you just ate lunch on the bus? What happened to the sandwich I bought you?" I ask.
"No look at those old ladies." he says.
I turn back towards the fruit stand and frown. sure enough there were three stupidly old ladies sitting next to the fruit stand. I don't know how I missed them on my first look. the three old ladies are knitting a massive pair of electric blue socks. I mean kind of weird I guess but at the same time who the hell cares. I turn to Grover who has gone deathly pale.
"are you alright?" I ask
Grover doesn't answer I turn back to the three old ladies and the middle one, the one holding the ball of yarn looks eyes with me. suddenly she draws a big pair of scissors and snips the thread. I hear the click from all the way across the highway and some instinct tells me ive just witness something momentous.
"get back on the bus." Grover urges. neither me nor Gon argue.
As we file off the bus Gon calls out to too people. a tall bald man with dark skin and a girl a couple years younger than us with golden hair and deep tan skin. gon immediately hugs his sister. I smile and think about Alluka and Kalluto. Grover says good bye and shuffles off to find a cab.
"Julius, Sadie I want you to meet my best friend Killua." Gon announces joyfully.
"Hello." I say simply.
"Killua and I met at the hunter exam. Oh look!" GON pulls out his hunters license. and shows it.
"alright well I better get going." I say. Gon looks at me startled.
"you're leaving already?" I shrug.
"yeah I mean. I figured you'd want to spend time with your family. besides " I clutch my phone with the instructions from my brother Illumi. "I have to go to work." Gon frowns. he didn't approve of assassination but he wasn't the kind of person to judge others either. besides this was the deal id made with my parents to get permission to leave home. to take any jobs nearby.
"Okay." Gon says flatly. "but stay safe and meet me at grand central station at Nine P.M." I nod. and we go our separate ways.
The job was pretty standard. A mob hit. I slipped some poison in the guys beer and he was dead in under a minute. Nobody even noticed me slip in and out.
as I make my way to our agreed upon meeting spot I find Gon waiting right where he said. although wish I could say it was unexpected, he had his hand stuck up a vending machine.
"Uhm, a little help." He asks kind of sheepishly. I roll my eyes.
no sooner than I had extricated Gon from the machine than None other than Grover reappears looking absolutely terrified. "We need to go!" he shouts. "NOW!" I roll my eyes.
"What more bird ladies." I expect him to deny it but instead he shakes his head and says "Worse." Grover flags down a cab and basically forces me and Gon into the back seat and gives the driver an address in long island. As we get on the highway it starts to storm. Hard. Grover buries his head in his hands.
"Its all my fault. I had no idea how badly they wanted to kill you."
"Who?" Gon asks.
The hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Gon and I both activate our ren. Bang! lightning struck the cab and blew us off the road. Gon and I are protected by our Aura but both Grover and the driver are unconscious. we kick the doors off the cab. Gon pulls Grover out and throws him over his shoulders while I check on the driver. he seems pretty banged up but more or less okay. then I see it. A Massive figure with a giant bulls head charging towards us. I tuck some cash into the drivers hand and dial 911 on his cell phone before turning to Gon.
"we need to lead that thing away from the cab driver." He nods and we begin running. luckily we were almost to the address Grover had given the cab driver . when we reach a hill with a large pine tree. overlooking a valley with several large buildings dotted around we stop. Gon lays Grover against the big pine tree and we turn towards the massive figure coming towards us. now its close enough to see clearly. Its a 12 foot tall man with the head of a bull. impossible. a freaking minotaur. that cant be real and yet her it is. the creature sniffs the air and roars. I pull out my YoYos and Gon draws his fishing pole. and the minotaur charges. I activate GodSpeed and tackle Gon. out of the way. the monster charges straight past us. so it cant turn easily. I turn to Gon as a plan materializes in my mind. As the minotaur turns around and charges again.i launch my yoyos and bash the monster in the head sending my electric aura into its head. the minotaur staggers. at the same time gon jumps and channels all his aura into his fist. "JAN!KEN!SCISSORS! he slashes down with his razor sharp aura and cleaves thestunned monster in half cutting off both his horns in the process. The minotaur melts into gold dust.
I pick up the two horns and gon lifts up grover.
"Well this is the place Grover was taking us." I announce. "I guess were supposed to head to that farmhouse." Gon nods and we march down the hill.
