lilith thorne

the seemingly ordinary teenage girl had a typical childhood. a mom and a dad who loved her and did anything to protect her.

she'd get up every morning, go to school, and then come home and have dinner with her parents. after dinner, however, she and her parents would go down to their basement and practice their abilities.

"one day you're going to need to protect yourself, lily," her father would say.

"why, dad?" the young girl asked. she looked up at her dad and into his eyes. she could sense the dread rolling off of both of them. "are we in danger?" she continued.

"no sweetheart, you have nothing to worry about now," her mom started, exchanging a look with her husband. "but do you remember when your dad and i told you that bad men were looking for us because of our gifts?"

"i think..." lilith mumbled, looking to the floor in thought. why would bad men look for mom and dad? they've done nothing but help people. how could people be so selfish?

lily's mom put her hand under lily's chin, pushing her head up to look at her parents. both of their bodies were rigid with fear. they were so scared of these bad men...men which lilith had never even encountered. how bad could they be? were they really as scary as her parents had described to her?

"they're going to find us sooner or later lilith, and this is why you need to be prepared. you may be young but your abilities are stronger than your father and i combined. this is why we've told you to keep it hidden from everyone. no one understands it, no one,"  her mom explained, bordering on being frantic. "we're going to send you away for a bit sweetheart. we couldn't bare to see you get hurt because of something stupid your father and i decided to do years ago."

six years prior when lily was only 10, her parents had come into contact with a bad man who got physical with them, causing them to use their ability to get away. ever since then, people have been after them, trying to kill them.

"no!" lily refused "you can't send me away, if someone is coming after us then i need to stay and protect us!"

"i'm sorry lilith but we've already decided. tomorrow you will be staying with one of our coworkers' until we know that you'll be safe. we love you and want you to continue with your life and your practice while we're apart."

that was the last night lily got to see her parents. the last time she had dinner with them, hugged them, spoke to them.

soon after she went to her parent's coworker's house, her parents were brutally killed. their abilities were of no help against the several people who swarmed and attacked them in their own home.

now, two years later she lives in her house alone. the only time she leaves is in the middle of the night where she can find some comfort in the darkness that surrounds her, envelops her in a comforting embrace.

ever since the death of her parents, she has practiced her gift. the gift of darkness.

the shadows have built walls around her, protecting her from any harm that may come.

but staying in the dark for so long has changed her. won't someone let some light in and give her some relief?

won't someone be the light that she needs?
