When the duo arrived at the village, the people we very hesitant to tust Rusty but they saw in his eyes, like Willow has, that he was not evil. That he only lost his way.
Rusty helped with multiple talks around the village, people started to really tust him.
After 3 weeks, Willow felt she should talk to him. She explained how her people were attacked by machines like him and how he gave her a different view on things.
Rusty didn't really show any signs of empathy about the story. He just looked like he was collecting information. At that moment, Willow really didn't know if he had a soul or not, it confused her. But she still felt hope that one day Rusty would open up to her.
