A month had passed at a crawl; it felt as if the new year had come and gone without her; Harper felt numb throughout the celebrations and festivities. It was hard to be happy when a piece of her heart was missing; in the short time they had been together, Harper had fallen in love with him. Loving Bucky Barnes wasn't easy, but it was worth it. Her heart ached for him; Harper had no idea where he went; she hadn't heard from him since the night he ended things. She did try to call him, but it just went to voicemail. She just wanted to know...no, she needed to know he was okay.

She tried to keep herself distracted by throwing herself into work, but it was hard not to think about him every minute of the day because the little things reminded her of him. She couldn't go to her favorite coffee shop anymore; she couldn't bring herself to watch any more of Witcher because she could hear him rambling on about what was canon and what wasn't. Harper had never felt this way about anyone before; she was in love with every part of Bucky, even the parts that scared her. But she knew he'd never hurt her; she knew he was in more control than he gave himself credit for.

On a rainy Tuesday night in the middle of January, the rain tapped against the windows, a somber lullaby that matched her mood. Harper lounged on the couch, under a weighted navy blanket, watching some sappy rom-com on Netflix as she ate her feelings; she knew it wasn't good for her, but what was a girl to do when the man she loved up and left? She sighed, watching Kate Hudson kiss Matthew McConaughey. Stupid Kate Hudson, stupid Matthew McConaughey, she takes an aggressive bite from the peach Twizzler in her hand.

Suddenly, she hears a car door slam. Harper wiggles herself free from her blanket cocoon and knee crawls across the couch; she carefully pulls back the curtain just a smidge, peering out into the night. That's when she saw a familiar figure thumping up the steps; it couldn't be...could it? Harper shoots off the couch, running to the door; her fuzzy, socked feet nearly slip out from under her as she slides on the floating wood floors.

Bucky's heartbeat is in his ears; he's nervous and has no idea if Harper wants to see him. He'd been working on himself, attending group therapy at the VA, and meeting one-on-one with his therapist several times a week for the past month. One of his therapy tasks was apologizing to Harper for hurting her and telling her he's in love with her. And that he's so sorry he was too wrapped up in listing why he wasn't good enough to realize it and that he will spend the rest of his life trying to make it up to her. If she, by some miracle, takes him back. Bucky wasn't going to let her go again without a fight.

As he reached the door, it swung open, revealing a teary-eyed Harper. Her blonde hair was shorter, resting on her shoulders some of the hair on her crown pulled into a messy bun. That she had told him was a style; he thought it was a mess, but it was a cute mess on her. He inhaled sharply, seeing her wearing one of his hoodies; he'd forgotten that she'd stolen it from him, cotton pajama bottoms, and fuzzy knee-high socks.

"Bucky," she breathed.

When she saw him standing there, a faded green backpack was tossed over his shoulder. His hair was shorter now and styled, the dark circles that had haunted his face were gone, and he had a sparkle in his eye she hadn't seen in a while. Harper felt like she was going to burst into tears. All the emotions she'd tried to suppress for the past month came flooding back; the love, the anger, the hurt.
