What If: Petra Had Lived

Broken Promise

Petra felt numb inside as the wagon rocked back and forth. Her hand and her eyes didn't leave the body that was wrapped in the sack.

"You promised" she thought to herself. She was too exhausted to cry.

"Why did you push me out of the way you idiot" she thought replaying the fight with the female Titan over and over again in her head.

Petra was staring death in the face one moment, the was tumbling to the ground in the next.

She screamed out for Eren to use his Titan, then scanned the scene.

Petra froze as she saw Eld's body, bitten in half, then her blood froze.

Oluo was against a giant tree, his back bent awkwardly, blood flowing from his mouth and nose.

The sky flashed as Eren bit down on his hand. Petra only noticed out of the corner of her eye, as she began to desperately try to do CPR on Oluo.

"No no no!!!" She cried, "you don't get to leave me here all alone"

But the way Oluo had fallen back into her arms, she knew her efforts were futile.

As Eren battled the female Titan. All Petra wanted to do was shelter Oluo's body.

After everything as said and done, the scouts came through collecting the bodies. Petra swallowed the lump in her throat as she watched them bag up her friends Eld and Gunther.

They came for Oluo. But she wouldn't let go. She didn't care at this point what people thought, she couldn't let them bag him up. It would make it all too real.

"Petra" she heard Levi's voice behind her.

"Get up."

She didn't move.

Levi placed a hand on her shoulder, "Petra, he's gone"

Petra slapped his hand away.

"Petra Ral, step aside from Mr. Bozard, that's an order" he said with harsh voice.

Petra glared at her Captain but obeyed. She felt a bit of relief when she saw Nifa and Abel appear.

Nifa gave her a sad smile, "don't worry we will take care of him" she said as Abel became wrapping his body.

Petra didn't notice Levi cutting the patch off his jacket.

Now the rolled along the countryside, Petra keeping an eye on Oluo's body.

She thought back to their training days, how nervous Oluo had been to talk to her. Their rides through the woods, walks in the snow, nights spent together.

All of that was gone. The future they had planned, everything in a matter of minutes.

Petra wasn't sure if she should be angry that Oluo had pushed her out of the way, or grateful for his sacrifice.

Her father worried enough as it was about her being in the Survey Corps, especially after her mother died.

Then like a gut punch to the stomach Petra thought about those 4 rambunctious but sweet boys that were Oluo's brothers.

Petra knew she had to be the one to tell them.

The thundering sounds coming from the trees behind them knocked Petra out of her grief.

Two scouts, were ridding frantically out of the tree line, followed by titans.

"Those f*cking idiots" Levi cried out. "We need to increase our speed"

"Sir I can't, we're too heavy"

In a moment of insanity Petra thought of a suicide mission of jumping out of the cart to slow the Titans down.
