Scott could see the heavy rain pouring, and though he knew he should feel cold, his body felt numb. It had been a few days since his mother's burial, yet he still vividly remembered the shock and pain he felt from the moment he found out until the moment he had to let her go.
Today, he found himself back at his mother's grave, having spent the past few hours soaked in the rain. He was still in disbelief over what had happened, and deep down, he was confused and terrified that he might have had something to do with her death.
For the past few nights, his nightmares had been filled with sharp claws, blood, and frightened screams. In these dreams, he transformed into a terrifying creature blinded by rage, consumed by hunger, and thirsting for blood. Each time he woke up, he tried to go about his day as usual, until Terry called him to his room to show him something.
Scott made his way to Terry's room, where he was shown CCTV footage of his mother's apartment on the day she died. It was then that he realized that he had no recollection of what happened on that fateful day. As he watched the footage, he saw a wolf entering the room, causing him to question if he was somehow responsible for his mother's death.
On his way home, he started having flashbacks of that day. Overwhelmed, he sought solace in a bar and drowned his sorrows in shots. The flashbacks continued to haunt him, especially when he remembered his mother's apartment. In one of these flashbacks, he saw his mother begging for mercy. Shaken, he returned home, only to feel his body growing numb and his skin becoming furrier. In a panic, he rushed back inside, throwing things around and crying. It was then that he went to the kitchen, contemplating ending it all with a knife next to his heart. However, he heard a voice that resembled his mother's, causing him to drop the knife and break down in tears.
Scott woke up, shocked to find shattered glass scattered everywhere. Seeking some semblance of normalcy, he went to a coffee shop to get a cup of coffee. It was there that he met a beautiful girl named Caroline, who happened to live in the apartment opposite his. They struck up a conversation while waiting for their coffee. When their drinks arrived, Scott noticed that Caroline had forgotten hers. Determined to catch up to her, he pursued her as she hopped into a cab. As he looked at the coffee cup, he realized her number and a "call me later" message were written on it.
Returning to his usual routine, Scott went to work and, as soon as he got home, he called Caroline and invited her over. Confused by the address she received, which was the opposite door from her apartment, Caroline wondered if Scott was the source of the noise. When she arrived, she was shocked to find broken glass scattered everywhere. Scott was surprised that she arrived early, but Caroline insisted on helping him clean up. They spent the evening tidying his entire apartment.
Afterwards, Caroline left to go to the mall but accidentally left her phone on the couch. Scott noticed her phone and saw her hopping into a cab. Determined to return it, he chased after the cab. Catching up to Caroline, he saw her running faster than the cab, prompting her to stop and open the window. Scott returned her phone, and as the window closed, both of them were confused by what they saw on the other end. Nevertheless, Scott was more concerned about his newfound speed and decided to test it out, realizing he could run faster than cars. He also discovered his enhanced senses, being able to hear a couple's conversation from a distance and smell someone baking a cake a mile away.
Returning home, he quickly fell asleep and had a dream of his mother begging for mercy. He woke up heavily panting and, feeling exhausted, went to work. As he walked towards the building, he suddenly smelled something repulsive that made him feel nauseous. Lost in his thoughts, he was startled when his friend Charles patted his back. Inside, he was irritated by the noise of traffic, and when he greeted Terry, he noticed his pulse racing and sensed that something was wrong. Terry informed him that animal attacks in the city were increasing rapidly. Intrigued, Scott investigated the scene of one such attack and was shocked to discover that it was no ordinary animal attack. The scent in the air seemed oddly familiar, but he couldn't pinpoint it. He requested an autopsy for the victim.
Back at work, irritated by the noise, Scott heard Caroline screaming for help. He rushed outside and saw Caroline being robbed. Determined to help, he chased the thief, surprising everyone with his incredible speed. The distraction caused by Scott's speed allowed him to apprehend the thief and return Caroline's bag. Afterward, he resumed his work, and someone approached him about the autopsy. He followed the doctor and observed the victim, noting the deep scratches and a significant chunk of the body missing. To his horror, he recognized the scent of the body—it was the same as Charles'. Confused, he returned to work.
On his way back to his apartment, Scott was greeted by Caroline, who thanked him for retrieving her bag. They decided to go to a nearby bar for drinks and continued talking. During their conversation, Caroline confessed her feelings for Scott, and he reciprocated. They went home together, and soon after, Scott heard someone calling for help. Instructing Caroline to go home, he rushed to the source of the sound, only to find a man with a hoodie trying to kill her. Scott intervened, engaging in a fight, until someone called 911 and the police arrived. To Scott's surprise, when he mentioned the man in the hoodie, the police laughed, stating that he was the only one there. Scott's badge and gun were taken away, and he was suspended.
Angry and frustrated, Scott returned home. The next morning, he was greeted by a knock on the door, and to his astonishment, Terry was there to arrest him for his mother's murder. Overpowered by Terry and arrested by the SWAT team, Scott pleaded his innocence, but his pleas fell on deaf ears. He was taken to the precinct and thrown into a jail cell.
Upon hearing of Scott's arrest, Caroline rushed to the precinct as his lawyer. Scott confided in her, revealing everything he knew, hoping they could uncover the truth about his mother's killer. As he recounted the events, he became nauseous and angry with himself. Caroline urged him to calm down, but the stress proved too much, and Scott fainted.
When Scott regained consciousness, he found himself in the ICU, surprised by his surroundings. Caroline informed him that he had been in the ICU for two months, enduring seizures and flatlines. She explained that the doctors had anticipated declaring him brain dead if he didn't wake up. To his amazement, Scott felt completely normal and insisted on standing up without assistance. The doctors, reviewing his x-ray results, were astounded by what they saw—a level of fast healing they had never witnessed before. Realizing the implications, Caroline noticed that Scott had vanished from the bed. A sudden announcement over the hospital's loudspeaker revealed that there was a fleeing patient. The doctors and staff rushed to the exits, but to their surprise, nobody was running. Scott reappeared in the comfort room of his room, leaving Caroline astonished that he had been there the whole time.
