Shaky Starts and Rocky Paths

After a long day of introductions and friendly welcomes, Calin and Felix guided me up a hardwood staircase all the way up to the 5th floor that held close to twenty rooms, half of which were empty. They guided me to the 3rd room on the right of the hallway, coming to a stop as Felix opened the door. "This is your room." He said, stepping inside, followed by me, then Calin. Felix stood in the middle of the room while Calin stood near the door. I took everything in; the large king-sized bed, the spacious walk-in closet, and the marble ensuite bathroom.

"It's beautiful, this whole place is beautiful," I said. "You're beautiful, Astra," Calin said as she made her way towards me. I blushed. She cupped my cheek softly. I pressed into her touch, trying to savior the electrifying contact. "We will let you rest. Our rooms are just across the hall if you need anything," Felix said from behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist. I gasped at the contact. He trailed small kisses down my neck, lips lightly brushing over my skin. I groaned as burning heat flooded my entire body. Before I had time to gather myself, I felt Calin's lips pressed against my own. I moaned into her kiss, Felix's hands holding me tighter against his body as Calin pressed into me, deepening our kiss.

My head was swimming in ecstasy by the time they pulled away. "We will see you in the morning. Sleep well, love." Felix said softly, his eyes heated. "Okay." That was all I managed to say. Calin followed his lead out of my new room, her eyes equally heated as her brothers. "Goodnight, Astra." She said before closing the door behind them. I stood still, in the middle of the open-spaced room, trying to grasp a clear thought. My mind was still stumbling with sensations the twins sparked inside me.

Once I had gathered myself, I grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a tank top from the closet and made my way into the bathroom. I turned the shower on before taking off my clothes and stepping under the steaming spray. I let the gentle beating water run over me, allowing it to wash away the last three months. I scrubbed the dirt off my body and washed my hair before turning off the water and stepping out of the shower. I dried off with one of the many white fluffy towels folded in the bathroom before getting dressed and making my way back into the bedroom.

I walked over to the bed and crawled under the thick covers, sinking into the comfortable bed. I sighed and closed my eyes, allowing sleep to wash over me, to take me to some place far off as all dreams did. A deep peace washed over me, something I hadn't felt in a very long time. Sleep came quickly as my mind and body let go.

I woke up to the sound of raised voices outside my door. I quietly got out of bed and tiptoed my way toward the door to get a better sense of what the voices were arguing about. "How dare you bring her here! You have put this entire pack in danger!" "You watch yourself, Councillor Thorn, you are addressing your Alphas. Show some respect." I heard Felix spit out. "Well, with the utmost respect, Alphas, you might as well kill us all now 'cause you have hung a death sentence over our heads." The guy, Thorn, hissed. "What evidence do you have to back up your accusations Thorn?" I heard Calin question. "She is from their pack, a pack that has hunted and hated us since before your parent's reign." He pressed.

"Enough!" Calin shouted, anger clear in her voice. "You cannot judge one person based on what they were born around. Astra stays until otherwise proven," Calin announced. "Alpha! You can't..." The man tried to continue. "I will hear no more on this matter!" Calin shouted with authority. "Alpah, please just listen to reason..." The man tried again. "My sister has spoken Thorn. I suggest you listen now rather than disobey and be punished." Felix warned the man.

There was a moment of complete silence before the man caved, "Yes Alphas." And walked away. I heard Felix sigh. "I don't like where your train of thought is heading," Calin said. "There will be others thinking as Thorn is Calin." "Felix, you can't think that she would..." Calin trailed off. "No, I don't. All I'm saying is that these need to be addressed and put to rest before things get out of hand." Felix said calmly. Calin sighed before saying, "You're right."

At her words, I sank to the floor, tears streaming down my cheeks. I was conflicted, caught between wanting to tell them everything and fear of them hating me for it. They deserved to know exactly who they led into their pack. That didn't make me feel any better. I sucked in a staggered breath, steeling my nerves and stowing away my fear. I stood up, making my way into the bathroom to wash away the tears before walking out to face the music.

I walked out of my room, down the five flights of stairs, making a beeline towards the pack house kitchen which, like everything else in the pack house was modern, from the two-door fridges placed at each side of the room to the dark granite countertops that showed various modern appliances. I spotted Calin and Felix as soon as I walked in, along with six other pack members they were talking to. I took a deep breath and made my way towards them. "Calin, Felix, may we please talk?" I asked them, which caught their attention instantly. "Yes, of course," Felix said as he walked towards me. "In private, please." At my words, Calin jumped out of her chair. "Come with me." She said, grabbing my hand gently, leading Felix and me up a flight of stairs to the second floor that housed all the offices and a conference room.

Calin came to a stop, unlocking the office door before walking in, followed by me, then Felix, who closed the hardwood door. The office was extremely neat with a polished hardwood desk that had a wall-length window behind it. There were three one-seater sofas that were perfectly arranged around the plush carpet with bookshelves along both sides facing walls containing hundreds of books, all of them hard-covered and looking to be years old. Calin took the sofa closest to her desk, Felix took the one on her slanted right, and I took the one on the left.

"This is my office, there is no need to worry about anyone hearing us. The office is spellbound and soundproof." Calin explained, leaning her back into the black leather sofa. Felix leaned forward in his, arms resting on his thighs and his hands clasped out in front of him. "What did you need to talk to us about Amore?" He asked, concern clear as day in his voice. "You need to know..." I choked, "You deserve to know who you brought into your pack."
