When Observer kills someone their soul goes into the glasses, and firebrand broke the glasses at one point and the souls escaped. But mainly he eats them when the glasses gets full. He just got a new pir after firebrand did that though, he feeds off the souls eh traps. Like straight up drinks them,. They are what make the glasses glow.
