Sasuke flinches as the silver device on his right hand side vibrates enough to shift its position next to his laptop on the table, carefully turning it over to read the new notification.

NaraShadow: here's the playlist! don't listen with the volume all the way up!

After class the day prior, he'd exchanged instagram accounts with the self-proclaimed punk that sat at his table during their boring World History class. As promised, the link to a playlist curated on Apple Music had been sent to him.

He'd been working on a few assignments in his usual spot in the cafe, occasionally glancing over at the tired barista who'd stolen his mind recently. There wasn't a single day he spent in that cafe that Naruto hadn't been there, which was saying a lot, being he only went in there every single day. Not that he minded getting to see the blonde every day for as long as he could, but he could tell that the man's smile was beginning to fade.

Today he didn't seem as energetic towards the customers. Nor did he give his usual to-the-moon-and-back service. He did his job with faint cheerfulness oozing from his body, his smile quickly vanishing whenever he finished dealing with a customer. It was obvious he'd been working hard for a reason, but it made Sasuke feel a small amount of empathy for him, which was rare.

Sasuke deeply and proudly hated the human race, way before he was even old enough to know just how cruel people could be. Well, his own family had taught him that much well enough. In the countryside, people were a lot more secretive with their venom than he'd come across in the city. He assumed it was mostly because there weren't many places to go, far less to do, and even fewer people to do it with. So naturally, they took to gossiping about neighbors and the children of others. Shamelessly looking down on whoever they could out of boredom. It always infuriated him, how busy-body they could be over the lives of others.

Basically you could already imagine he didn't harbor much feeling for anyone, and that unfortunately included himself.

Sasuke forwards the playlist to his laptop and plugs his headphones into the jack, playing the first song on the playlist, Care I Give by AFOURTEEN.

When the song starts, a heavy baseline and drums initiate the upbeat energy of the song. As the melody fills his ears, a certain excitement rises in his body, the words of the song making him want to bob his head right there in the middle of the cafe.

I DONT CARE DONT CARE I NEVER CARED ENOUGH
I DONT CARE DONT CARE NEVER GAVE A FUCK
I DONT CARE CARE CARE ENOUGH
I DONT CARE CARE CARE ENOUGH
DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT

I DONT CARE LIL BITCH PUSSY GIVE IT UP
I KNOW YOU WANT ME TO
BUT WE GOT DIFFERENT VIEWS
ILL FUCKIN PISS ON YOU
I I I DONT CARE DONT CARE NEVER GAVE A FUCK

His trans ends for a moment when something slightly pulls at his scalp, a wince slipping passed his lips. A piece of his hair had gotten tangled up with the wires. Wincing again as he attempts to pull the headphones away, the chord seems to be holding onto it for dear life. "Ow, piece of sh—,"

"Here, hold still one sec." The voice barely cuts through the rowdy music blasting through his eardrums, a hand holding one side of his white headphones still while the other hand works carefully to separate his hair from the wire without causing further pain in the process. The tips of his fingers remain connected to his hair for a few extra seconds before the appendage slips back down by his knees. "There, it's loose."

Sasuke's heart nearly stops at the closeness of their proximity, the blonde barely inches away from his face with a toothy grin. Red spreads across his face like a wildfire, unable to properly express his gratitude.

"It's a really good song, isn't it? Afourteen is one of my favorites."

"Uh—yeah, it is. I don't really listen to this kinda music, someone just sent me a few recommendations." He admits anxiously, praying the blonde isn't disappointed at how far away their tastes are.

Naruto smirks and stands back upright, hands slipping into the pockets of his baggy black scrubs. "Well, it seemed like you were really enjoying it there. It's always good to keep an open mind and explore other genre. If you like that song, I think you should check out Slayer."

"Slayer?"

The blonde laughs through his nose at the raven haired male's interest, motioning for permission to google the band on his laptop. At the signal of a nod, he begins typing the name into the search bar, clicking the second recommended song that pops up.

A few seconds into the song, and Sasuke's hooked. A twinkle forms in his eyes, his mouth parting slightly at the sounds being pumped into his ears.

Naruto grins wildly at him. "Ya know, this is probably the first time I've ever seen you look like that."

Sasuke furrows his eyebrows, meeting his counterpart's gaze from the laptop. "Like what?"

"Excited."

"You don't know what you're talking about." Sasuke states pointedly while shoving his headphones back into place over his ears with a sudden irritation, the tatted male gazing at him with an amused smirk.

"Moron."
