Here you were, standing next to Wally Darling in the flesh. It was a lovely day out, the sun was shining and everyone was having a lovely time. Some of the neighbors were on picnics, others just relaxing, and one sitting right next to you. Wally Darling, the only neighbor you truly cared about when it came to romance and friendship in one.
You looked at his soft, yellow hand that was next to yours and smiled. You grabbed it gently, a smirk appearing on your face. You always knew how to fluster the poor fella, and boy was it easy. He was such a shy but loveable character around you. You looked up to meet his gaze, only to notice he was not looking at you. His free hand covered his now bright red cheeks.
"Wally, what's wrong?" You asked slyly, knowing exactly what you were doing. You feigned innocence as he stuttered and attempted to get words out. "Nothing..." He said softly. You knew he liked you, and at this point you had begun to like him too. You had known each other for almost a year now, leading to a lot of talking to him while he painted. There seemed like no better way to spend your time, after all. Who else could be more entertaining to talk to, after all? He had the most extravagant of stories, the most beautiful paintings, and the sweetest smile. Oh, how you loved his smile. You began to zone out, thinking about just how much you adored the man beside you. He squeezed your hand, bringing you out of your trance.
"Y/n, dear, look to your left." He said, seeming slightly uneasy. You looked at him, puzzled, before following his instructions. Boy, did you regret that choice. You couldn't stop your hand from leaving his and covering your mouth to stop a scream from coming out. The fear could be seen in your eyes.
"It's just a wasp, don't worry. I'll get it off." Wally said to you, watching you as your breathing quickened. You had one fear, and that was wasps. Nothing could come close to it. Abandonment, isolation, death, nothing compared. You were fine around most bugs as well, beetles and bees were totally okay by your standards. But why did the wasp have to choose you?
Wally gently flicked your shoulder, watching the wasp fall and then fly away. You couldn't calm down that easily though, your phobia grabbed your heart and tied it into knots. "Y/n, are you okay?" Wally asked as you tried to not show your fear. "Y-yeah." You said softly, sitting up straight. Had your face gone pale? Could he tell how scared you were? Did he think you were a wuss? The worst thought came to mind; Did he thinks that it was funny? That you were so terrified of a little bug? Could a wasp even be classified as a bug?
You were snapped out of your thoughts once again, "Darling, are you okay?" Wally asked once again, with more pressure to say the truth. "I'm terrified of wasps..." You admit. He seems to smile a little a wider than usual. "That's okay! Everyone is scared of something!" He says.
You nervously smile back as you stand up to leave. Within the same second he is upright and beside you. You begin to walk to your house, shivering at the thought of what had just happened. Wally continues to comfort you, seeming slightly amused. You two get to your house and you open the door, looking back to Wally. He smiles at you and gives you a quick hug.
"You can come inside, you know." You say to him, stepping aside for him to enter. As you do so, he waltzes inside and then grabs your hand. He pulls you to your couch, allowing the door to shut on its own. You sit beside him, looking at him with a puzzled expression. You already feel much better now, the walk really helped you calm down. He hugs you again, seeming to still be attempting to comfort you. Or is that just him wanting to hold you? No, no, that's a silly thought. 'He is just a nice fella,' You tell yourself. Wally looks down at you, seeing your face. Did he realize how hot you felt? How weak you were in his arms? Did he know... Did he know you loved him?
"Darling..." You heard him say sweetly. "Will you look at me?" He asked, gently lifting your chin with his fingers. You met his eyes and began to blush like crazy. You gulped down your nervousness and forced a small smile. "Yes, Wally?" You asked quietly. "You seem so shy... Was it that wasp that scared you?" He asked. You slowly sat up as he pulled you closer by the chin. Closer to him... Closer to his lips. You began to blush more and more with each passing second, did he really know? You were sure by now it was obvious.
"Or are you nervous about something else?" He asked you, inches away from your face. You couldn't help but stare into his eyes, you had dreamed of this moment every day of your life here. That one day, you would meet a puppet as special as him. Although you didn't expect it to be... Well, Wally. His eyes drifted from yours to your lips. You were usually the one in control, but this felt good. You felt at ease with this sort of affection. "Wally, I..." You tried to force out some words, but your brain couldn't formulate any.
"Wally, I think I-" you were quickly cut off by him pulling away and standing. "I think the others are calling me, I need to get going!" He exclaimed. You tried not to let your disappointment show. "Yeah, I'm sure they are." You closed your eyes, feeling a hand on your cheek. You opened them quickly and noticed Wally staring into your eyes again. He moved in silently and placed his lips onto yours. 'Finally,' you thought. The teasing had brought your spirit down, but now it was back and better than ever!
"Oh, and by the way neighbor..." Wally started after pulling away, "I love you too." He left after those words left his mouth. So he did know... That didn't matter though, what mattered is that he loved you back. "Wally! Wait!" You said, running after him. You grabbed his wrist and pulled him back into another quick kiss. "I never got to say I love you." You said sheepishly.
