I adjusted Ethan's cape with a smile perched on my lips "you look great, hon."

"I don't feel great," he sighed as I ran my fingers through his curls.

His hair was always so soft and so silky. I wished I could bury my face in it but he was too tall for me to reach. He smirked down at me softly knowing what I was thinking, instead he moved forward to plant a kiss on my forehead, making sure to not do anything too inappropriate in front of Chad.

"You look fine," Chad chimes in as he adjusts his costume in the mirror. "Plus, you already have a fine girl. I have more pressure here than you."

I smiled politely at Chad although I knew there were more attractive girls than me at the party. Ethan's loyalty to me would never be in question but that didn't mean I wouldn't feel insecure from time to time.

"How I pulled her and you're still single I have no idea," Ethan quipped light heartedly which seemed to brighten Chad's mood.

"Oh stop," I laughed, running my hands along his shoulder.

"C'mon, you're a snack," Ethan said with a playful grin, showing off his white teeth.

"He's right," Chad laughed and I glared at them both. Accepting compliments had never been my strongest trait.

"He is right, not about that but about you being able to pull any girl you wanted." I winked at Chad after speaking, making him flustered as he looked down with an embarrassed smile.

Ethan snaked his arms around me, resting his hands on my lower back. Little gestures like the winking never bothered Ethan, especially when he could show everyone who I really belonged to.

"Let's go so we can find you your own snack," I spoke to Chad but pecked a kiss on Ethan's cheek.

"I'm kinda hungry now," Chad groaned.

"We'll help you find a girl you can go to dinner with," I smiled at Chad politely.

Ethan raised his eyebrow at me knowing that meant I wanted him to help Chad. Chad was a good guy, he had no part in Richie's death but he associated with the wrong people. I knew he had a crush on Tara which I did my best to steer him away from and towards better options. It wouldn't hurt for him to find someone to love, especially someone who wasn't the sister and accomplice of a murderer.

Ethan gave me one apprehensive look before Chad opened the apartment door, letting in the cold New York Air. I squeezed his arm comfortingly as we stepped outside initiating our game plan for the night. It was simple really, just ensure our presence was made and keep an eye on Tara.

It wasn't too far to the party and despite it not being Halloween yet we weren't exactly that out of place. There were others walking by in costume which helped set me at ease, along with Ethan's arm around me of course.

Soon enough we heard the loud music of the frat party, starting my unease.

"It's okay," Ethan whispered into my ear, moving his hand to mine "I've got you."

Our fingers intertwined in an embrace and immediately I felt stronger. He knows I don't do well in social situations. The way his brown eyes looked sympathetically into mine was exactly what I needed. He was seriously the perfect boyfriend and this was the best relationship I've ever been in.

Social functions haven't been easy since Richies murder. It was so easy for people with bad intentions to hide anywhere here, especially at a party. I just had to remind myself of the presence next to me. What was there to fear when the shadow in the night was your boyfriend protecting you?
