Clare walked down the east wing. When she walked past the forbidden room her stomach churned in excitement when she thought about her plan. She kept reciting the plan in her mind, over and over again, just to make sure she had got everything down to the last detail.
She walked past the cafeteria. Suddenly Kaleb was by her side. When the guards were turned the other way, he slipped a key into her hand. Her stomach turned, being afraid that they'd be caught, since there were guards stationed at almost every corner of the research lab.
-"Are you sure this is the right key?" She whispered, almost soundlessly.
-"Yes, I'm sure. It took me all night to try and get the key from the guard. The guard kept moving around, and I almost got caught by another guard. In the end I did get it though and that was part of our negotiation." Kaleb whispered back.
-"Well, you were supposed to give me this midnight, not midday -that wasn't part of our negotiation- but I guess this was expected, since you're always late. We really need to work on your timings." She half-whispered.
-"And we really need to work on your coldness towards others, or you'll freeze." Kaleb laughed, half-heartedly.
-"Ha ha. Very funny." Clare spat at Kaleb.
-"I know right? My jokes are the best." He laughed, sarcastically.
Kaleb looked at his watch and sighed.
-"I have another negotiation to finish, so I have to go now. Bye!" Kaleb waved as he walked the opposite direction Clare was going.
-"Hope you're not late!" She waved back.
She walked towards the west wing, humming a song under her breath.
Clare had been known at the lab as quiet and unapproachable. No one except Kaleb could talk to her as he wanted to. When Kaleb wasn't around, she would become quiet and wouldn't reply to any questions or any statements made.
When she walked down the west wing, she looked around, making sure that no one was there to see her. She approached Jake's room at the end of the hallway, the metal door tall and towering.
Jake was the popular kid at the lab. Everyone knew that he was working with the people who owned the lab. He got almost everything he wanted. He was an enemy of Clare, but he was Kaleb's best friend. She had hated Jake ever since she first came to the lab.
Clare rolled her eyes, thinking of how much of an annoyance Jake was. Kaleb didn't let her do anything to Jake. She wanted to believe that this was because Kaleb actually had a crush on Jake. Jake would always annoy her, seeing how long it took, before she slammed her fist down onto the cafeteria table. Whenever she did that, he would laugh, mocking her.
She opened the door, which creaked in response.
