It was oddly quiet. Even her footsteps were muted as she walked through the halls, eyes wide with fear. It's fine... you're fine. It's just a house... you're fine... She kept repeating those words over and over in her head as she slowly made her way through the house to see if anything had changed. She opened the entrance to the garage and took a slow deep breath in through her nose, a soft smile curling her lips. It still smells like dad... oil, cigars, and cheap booze... She shook her head and closed the door, That shouldn't be comforting to me... dad was awful... She moved to the den and ran her hand over the desk that had taken the place of her father's wet bar. Oak... She took note of the reddish brown spatters that hadn't been sanded off and shuddered, Gods it must have been such a mess to clean...

She took her time meandering through the house, run-in her hands over the familiar details she recalled from her childhood in hopes that she could reconnect with some sense of fondness. So much happened here... so much shit... I just wanna feel at home somewhere... She walked up the stairs and felt her skin get cold, the door to her bedroom seemed so massive to her still. So foreboding... Memories of sleeping with the door open as a child flashed through her mind. Begging her mother to leave it open so the scary monsters didn't get her. She breathed a soft chuckle to herself and shook her head, Overactive imagination... She opened the door and looked into the empty room. It felt so devoid of energy and life. She walked in and went straight to the window, opening the blinds to let daylight in and cracking the window for fresh air. Fresh air for a fresh start... that's what we both need, huh house? She breathed a heavy and walked back down the stairs, ready to begin her new life, when she noticed movement from the corner of her eye. She felt her heart freeze in her chest as her muscles locked in place, her breath catching in her lungs. Oh gods no... no no no, this isn't real... She moved towards where she'd seen the movement, every instinct in her body telling her to run. No! Her nostrils flared as she steeled herself against the terror rising in her throat. I'm not running anymore... She clenched her fists by her sides and forced herself to go after what she'd seen. Moving quietly, her breathing shallow and nearly silent, she walked down the stairs and paused. There was someone standing in the den. Swallowing the bile that rose in her throat, she crept along the wall towards the den entrance and bit her lip. This is stupid... this is insane. What if they have a gun? I can't die in this house! She stood in the open door and stared at the thing standing behind the desk. It was tall, legs bent all wrong, and the top half of its head was missing. It would've looked human if it weren't for the long, tentacle like tongue that hung from what used to be a lower jaw, nearly reaching the floor. Shuddering and gagging, she slowly took a step towards the creature in front of her, feeling a sudden agonizing grief hit her in the chest like a sack of bricks. Tears sprang to her eyes and she nearly doubled over as sudden shooting pains hit her stomach. Oh god! Nearly vomiting from the pain, she refused to stop her investigating and took another step towards the creature. "W-who are you? Why are you in my house?"

Sticky saliva and blood dripped down its tongue as a deep gurgling sound emanated from the creature's throat. A scream caught in her throat as she felt the creature was looking at her, even though there was nothing from the lower jaw up. Her whole body began to tremble as she watched the creature take a step towards her. Her eyes were wide in terror as she felt her body freeze in place, unable to move. Oh god! Oh god! Oh god! I'm gonna die... this thing is going to kill me! She felt a hand on her shoulder and nearly collapsed. Turning to see a very attractive man standing behind her, his eyes a golden yellow that seemed to pierce into her soul. "No need to be afraid," he said in a deep, smooth voice, "He won't hurt you." She swallowed hard and started trembling, I don't understand what's happening... The man smiled and offered her a steadying hand "Here..." he crooned as her legs started to buckle beneath her, "Let me help you."
