The melting point of titanium is 3034°F. That's 1666°C. The melting point of this armor is 2500°C. This armor could easily stand up to ground-based covenant weaponry. Durasteel is even tougher. Reinforced plasteel is, while not as tough, can easily stand up to repeated hits from a heavy blaster rifle. Bear in mind that a heavy blaster rifle exceeds 20,000°C on impact. That is not a joke or an exaggeration. That's why getting hit in the chest with a blaster bolt is extremely deadly. Covenant plasma weapons, even handheld only reach 3000°C. That is still as hot as a star.

The soldiers of the Imperial Army regularly paint their armor to better match the environment in which they are deployed. This includes the pauldron.
