The government has never cared about their people. Those in power never do. It doesn't matter the country. They all wanted the same thing, to be the best, the strongest, the smartest, to topple the competition.

What better way to push a humans limits, to learn the ways of body and mind, to bend and break it to your will than to experiment. They all do it, the powerful ones. They would never take their own, hurt their peers, but the poor, the lowest of low that exist for all their whims, that's why they're there of course. That's what she was, is still if we're honest.

It was the twenty-first century, and the world was in shambles. Earth was dying, only a matter of years they said, virus after virus killed thousands, humans were failing on every front. But what could she do but go about her life? Working every day just to feed herself, keep a roof over her head. That's what everyone who isn't one of the elite does.

Go to work, go home, go to work, go home and on occasion visit friends. But there wasn't much time for that. She had to eat and to eat she had to work. That was all she was. Her place in society was just a small part of the wheel going round and round. Who was going to notice if she went missing? In a world of 8 billion mice on a wheel, she was nothing, no one. They all were.

So they took her, among many others. One day she was living her life, trying to enjoy her dying world before it turned to dust, and then the next, she was asleep. She didn't know how long she was asleep. Her alarm never went off she knew that for sure. She felt groggy, her muscles stiff and weak at the same time. Work, she was gonna miss work, she needs to get up. She's definitely late already.

But she couldn't open her eyes. They felt like they were glued together. Like someone poured cement on her face while she slept. But 'work, work, work' she needs to get up and go to work. If she could only will her damned legs to listen to her, she's late, she can fill it in her bones. Her manager is going to tear her a new one for this.

Oh she was gonna get it, internally groaning already hearing that woman's word. 'It's like her personal mantra to always say how bad I am doing. She has nothing better to do. Like we're not all just trying to go about our days. Like-'

"Y/N. It's time to wake up." Who on God's green earth was in her apartment? She swore on her mother she would make them regret it. She wasn't the one, especially when she's just waking up. "Y/N,can you hear me? I need you to open your eyes."

"Who-" She stopped. There's no way that's her voice, hoarse and grating like hadn't spoken in years. "Careful Y/N, don't get ahead of yourself. Just open your eyes for me." So she did, finally able to peel apart the stuck lids. The light was blinding, making her eyes water. She tried to blink away the tears to see who was speaking to her. Who was in her apartment, talking to her like a child.

"Atta girl, just like that." Her eyes finally started to adjust, only to see a man hovering over her. Light illuminating his silhouette like an angel. She stared, no, not an angel ... a scientist. His white coat was stark against his warm brown skin. "Welcome back to the land of the living."

'This is a dream. Definitely a dream. What the fuck. A fucking nightmare, if this man touches me I'll-'

"This is shocking, I know. But try not to get overwhelmed. Once you can sit up, I'll bring you something to eat and drink and I'll explain everything. But I need you to be calm for me.

Calm. Calm! Was he out of his fucking mind? She could feel her heart hammering against her ribs, trying to break free of the constraining bones. The longer she felt her body, the burning eyes, the limp legs, the shallow uneven breaths, the more she felt this wasn't a dream. It couldn't be a dream she felt too ... real

"Where am I?" Her voice grated like metal again glass. "Short anwser," the man sighed "The RDA lab. Long anwser, Pandora." She squinted at him, slowly pushing herself up. "Like the music app?" Her head felt like a rock balanced on a toothpick. The scientist snorted a laugh, "What are you talking about."

"What are you talking about?" She retorted. "What year is this one from?" He turns, asking a passing woman. "The 20's," the woman stops looking her up and down. "After Corona but before the yellow plague." It was her turn to laugh, "First you don't know pandora and now you're talking about some plague." She found it hard to understand her own words and wondered if these scientists did.

"You haven't debriefed her? Most of the others are already up and exploring. " The woman scowled.

"She's been taking a long time to wake up. Dr. Henderson said the older they are the longer it will take ... and if she's from the 20's," he sighs, "I'm surprised she's even open her eyes. I she the only one from that period?"

She was wrong. This was a dream. If it wasn't and she was awake, then she'd been kidnapped by lunatics. Those were the only explanations. She didn't bother to register the argument the scientists mumbled back and forth, only focused on trying to breath away the ache so deep she felt it in her bones.

"Y/N." Her eyes snapped to the woman. "You're are apart of a government program, civilians were chosen at random. You were one of few." Another laugh escaped her throat. "God you money hungry bastards are seriously doing human experiments? I thought that was just a conspiracy theory." The scientists shook their heads at one another, not fully understanding her.

She took a breath, closing her eyes and letting her head drop. After a moment she opened them, examining her hands. That's when she noticed the stripes, like a tigers almost. Her eyes traced them, all along her hands, up her arms, down her legs. 'What the fuck did they do to me?' She felt a twitch at her tail bone, she glanced back, afraid.

She screamed, launching up on unsteady legs. She heard her name, the scientists trying to calm her down but she payed them no heed. Only scrambling to try and get away from the flesh colored tail. But she couldn't, it was on her, it was apart of her. She let out a choked sob, "What did you do to me?"

"Sit down, calm down and we'll explain." The man tried to grab for her but now that she was Standing he was small, too small for a grown man. She towered over him, over everyone. "What did you do to me!" She was surrounded on all sides now. Strangers in white lab coats all trying to coax her like a wild kitten.

A needle nipped at her skin, two needles, three needles. She lost count before she dropped to her knees. "A sedative," the female scientist explained, "we don't want to hurt you. We just need you to be calm so we can explain."
