Kyle was used to being the subject of people's whispers and stares. Everywhere he went, people couldn't help but admire his perfect curves and pretty face. His striking red hair completed his enchanting looks, but he felt sick of being seen as only that. His friends constantly teased him about how effeminate he looked, and it bothered him more than he let on. So when the unthinkable happened, Kyle was ready to show everyone that he was much more than a pretty face.
It was just another day at South Park Elementary when the unthinkable occurred--a school shooting. Students frantically ran to classrooms, and all the doors were being locked and barricaded. However, Kyle found himself isolated by himself in the men's restroom. He emerged to find the place almost like a ghost-town.
Confronted by hearing gunshots, Kyle came face to face with the school shooter. Though the perpetrator aimed his weapon at Kyle, the red-haired boy didn't flinch.
Instead, he walked calmly toward him with a sucker in his mouth and didn't show any emotion, a mask as all others cried and screamed for mercy.
"What are you doing here, pretty boy?" the shooter asked, thinking that such a delicate-looking boy like Kyle would scare easily.
Kyle remained calm and didn't respond to the shooter's taunts. "We shouldn't be fighting against each other, man," he finally said, trying to defuse the situation.
But the shooter only sneered and aimed his weapon again. Kyle then made his move and slammed the shooter to the ground.
The shooter tried to fight back, but Kyle was too quick, and he mercilessly pummeled the villain until he fainted.
It wasn't long before the police arrived at the scene, and Kyle had to be retold everything that had gone down. He never faltered, never lost his imperturbable edge, that shallow passivity.
He knew that he had done something bigger than his fleeting, ephemeral good looks. His identity as a person had truly emerged. Not to mention that all the other students could now see that Kyle was much more than a pretty face, a delicate flower with no real substance underneath.
When the news broke out, his friends' opinion of him changed forever. They respected him, especially Stan, who had always seen something special in Kyle apart from those looks.
Later that night, the two boys met up for the first time since the shooting to talk about everything. Words weren't necessary, and they found each other under a full moon. Without hesitation, Stan leaned in for a kiss, and Kyle responded with just as much passion in return.
Finally, Kyle realized that what he truly wanted was never just being admired for his appearance. He wanted someone to see the real him that went beyond appearances. With Stan, he had found that. Under the romantic moonbeams, they cemented their connection with a kiss that made their love story inevitable. And for both boys, nothing else mattered anymore. They had found someone who saw them for everything that they were.
