There was a chill in the air when we sat on the bleachers. I wrapped a blanket around Elliot, bringing him closer to me. I looked up at the field, eyes locking on Nathan. He hasn't changed much in the last three years. We were supposed to meet Nathan tomorrow, but I decided I wanted to surprise him. One of his dreams was to have Elliot watch him play.
"We see your friend?" Elliot asked, bringing my attention back to him.
"Yea. See that guy over there? That's Nathan." I pointed over to Nathan, who was wearing number fifteen. He nodded and went back to watching the game.
After the game, I picked up Elliot and carried him to where Nathan would see us. Nathan came out, and I saw some girl running over to kiss him. It hurt seeing him kiss some other girl that wasn't me.
"Sophie, who is that girl?" He frowned, looking up at me.
"I'm not sure, buddy." As if he could sense us, Nathans's head turned and looked at us. Pure shock formed on his face as he looked me over.
"Sophie." He gasped. He pulled away from the girl and came over to us.
"Hi," I said shyly.
"Is this?"
"Yes, this is Elliot. Elliot, this is my friend Nathan." I smiled as he got down on his knees so he was at eye level with Elliot.
"Hey, little man, it's nice to meet you. Can I have a hug?" He looked at me, and I nodded, so he went over to Nathan.
"Who is this?" One of the guys on the team came over.
"This is my new pal Elliot, and this is Sophie. Elliot, this is my friend Duncan. Can you play catch with him while I talk to Sophie for a minute?" Elliot looked up at me as I nodded my head. He slowly pulled away from me, going with Duncan.
"I can't believe it's him." I nodded as we leaned against the fence, watching our son play with Duncan.
"It's so surreal being here with him. I know you wanted him to see you play, so I thought this was a good idea."
"It's perfect, thank you. Does he know we are his parents?"
"Not fully. When he's a little older, we can explain everything more." He nodded, turning to look at me.
"It's good to see you, Soph." He smiled as tears filled my eyes. Nathan moved closer, wrapping me in his arms.
"This is our second chance. We have a lot to figure out, but we will figure it out together. You are going to be an amazing mom." I nodded, turning my head so I could watch Elliot. He was smiling and laughing with Duncan before he turned and looked at us. An overwhelming sense of relief washed over me as he looked at us.
"Nathan." The girl that Nathan kissed walked over, making us pull apart. She was in short shorts that you could see her ass and a shirt that hung low enough to see her boobs.
"Kate, this is not the time."
"Who is she?" She hissed while I shook my head.
"Excuse me," I said, going over to Duncan and Elliot.
"Hey buddy, are you ready to go? Maybe go get some lunch?"
"Bye, Duncan." He waved before running over to me.
"Sophie, wait." Nathan ran up, grabbing my hand.
"Let me have lunch with you two."
"What about your friend?" I shrugged, looking over to the girl giving me death glares.
"Just us. What do you say, little man? Can I join you guys?" He nodded.
"Fine, we will follow you." He smiled gratefully as we left the field.
After a long day, I didn't feel like driving back, and Elliot wanted to spend time with Nathan, so we decided to stay the night.
"Good night, little man." I smiled, kissing his forehead.
"Night, Soohie." I kissed his forehead then he closed his eyes going to sleep. I changed and went into the living room, where Nathan looked out the window. I walked over and sat crisscrossed in front of him.
"I keep thinking this a dream, that you two aren't here."
"It's crazy isn't it?" I sighed, turning to look out the window.
"Soph."
"Hmm."
"I'm sorry for how things went down back then." I shook my head as I reached over, reaching for his hand.
"We did the right thing. We both said some things, but we did the right thing. Even if I knew this is where we would be, I wouldn't have changed a thing."
"Are we ready for this?" he sighed, looking at his bedroom door.
"More than we were before. We will have to work at it, but we will figure it out." He turned, reaching over to pull me into his arms. My back rested against his chest as his arms wrapped around my front.
"You believe that everything is going to be okay?" I asked after a couple of minutes.
"I do. There's a reason he was brought back to us." I nodded, snuggling more into his embrace.
"You looked beautiful today."
"Thanks, you looked pretty hot in those pants." I giggled, turning in his arms and looking up at him.
"I always do. What you are you talking about?" He smirked.
"I missed this," I admitted.
"Me too." He smiled, making me realize how close we were. Before I realized it, he leaned in, pressing his lips to mine, kissing me softly. I turned, wrapping my arms around his neck and bringing myself closer. Slowly he pulled away and pressed his forehead to mine.
"Nate."
"I don't regret it."
"You have a girlfriend."
"I don't care about her. She means nothing to me like you do." I shook my head, pushing away from him.
"Nate." I sighed.
"Do you regret it?"
"No."
"That's all I need."
"Mommy." I turned, seeing him standing in the doorway.
"What baby?" He came running, jumping into my arms. I ran my fingers through his hair while he rested his head against my chest.
"What's the matter, baby?"
"Had a bad dream."
"Want to tell us about it?"
"No."
"Alright, come on, we will lay with you." He nodded. I pulled away from Nathan and went into his room, lying down. Nathan came in, taking his shirt off before lying down.
Elliot curled up to me while Nathan wrapped his arms around us. Tears welled up in my eyes as I wrapped my arms around them. Nathan took my hand, squeezing it.
