Luz lay in her bed, staring up at the ceiling, unable to sleep. She had been having nightmares again, and they seemed to be getting worse every night. She tried to shake the images from her mind, but they just kept coming back, haunting her.
Suddenly, the door to her room creaked open, and Amity slipped inside. Luz sat up, surprised to see her friend there.
"Amity, what are you doing here?" Luz asked.
"I heard you talking in your sleep," Amity said softly. "I thought maybe you could use someone to talk to."
Luz nodded, grateful for the company. She told Amity about her nightmares, how they were getting more and more vivid, and how she felt like she wasn't getting any rest at all.
Amity listened intently, and when Luz was finished, she took her hand. "I'm sorry you're going through this," she said. "But you don't have to go through it alone."
Amity then shared her own experiences with nightmares, how she used to be plagued by them when she was younger. She told Luz how she had learned to cope with them, and how she could help Luz do the same.
Together, they sat in Luz's bed, talking late into the night about their fears and their hopes. They laughed and cried and hugged each other, finding comfort in each other's presence.
As the sun began to rise, they both fell into a peaceful sleep, knowing that they had each other to lean on. And from that night on, whenever one of them had a nightmare, they would turn to the other for comfort and support, knowing that they were never alone.
