Chapter 2

Once papa leaves I start to unpack my things, surprisingly everything was here before we got to the church, Swiss and mountain must have moved quick, every box was labeled. I start with my clothes hanging what I needed them putting the rest in the drawers of my new dresser. As I'm putting my clothes up I hear a knock on my door. "It's open!" I say loudly, I see Aether walk in, and give him a faint smile. "How do you like your new room? We're neighbors now!" He says, he smiles at me I see his tail swaying side to side calmly. "I love it here, it's nice my rooms a little cold but I'm sure Swiss and mountain packed my extra blankets in one of these boxes." I say to him, he sits on my bed and watches me unpack. "Did you want any help?" He asks me tilting his head. "No I think I got it. I'm pretty particular about where things go." I respond not looking at him. I hear him hum back at me. "Well if you need anything let me know." He says smiling walking out, leaving my door open, I hear a deep growl come from down the hall, I instantly knew it was sodo. I hear his footsteps get closer to my room. "Hey." He says sternly. I don't look at him, I just continue to unpack my things. "Emily!" He says louder. I throw my things down and turn to him, he's only inches away from my face, I see his tail thrashing side to side. "What!" I practically yell in his face, he backs away. His tail cowering down to the ground. "Why was Aether in your room." He says quietly, looking to the ground fidgeting with his hands. "Sodo, let's get this straight. I'm not your girlfriend, I get you have some kind of crush on me, but Aether is my friend, he asked if I needed help I said no. You don't get to have a say in who I talk to!" I say angrily to sodo who looks like I just completely shattered his heart. "I'm sorry. I'll leave you alone then." He starts to turn to walk out, I instantly feel horrible for snapping at him. Papa said that ghouls have mates, if papa was right and I'm his mate he can't control how he feels about me. "Sodo wait." I say he stops and looks at me. His tail between his legs. "Would you like to help me?" I ask giving him a small smile, knowing it would make him happy just to be close to me. He nods and closes the door. We begin unpacking he occasionally asks where things go I direct him, or come behind him and fix whatever he put down. His tail occasionally grazing my leg or arm. Every time his tail touched me I felt a shiver down my spine, but it felt nice, warm and comforting.

Sodos POV:
I see Aether walk out of Emily's room and feel an overwhelming feeling of jealousy I let a deep growl out. Aether paying no mind and walking to his room. I see Emily's door still open and walk to her doorway. "Hey!" I get a little more aggressive than I'd like, she doesn't even flinch, she just ignores me. I walk into her room standing behind her. "Emily!" I say loudly. She throws whatever it is she's holding and turns quickly her face nearly inches from mine, I want to kiss her so bad. "Why was Aether in here?" I ask her. She starts yelling at me. She hates me I think to myself, I feel so drawn to her her she hates me. I cower down. She said she was just some crush. I wish she knew it was so much more, I need her in my life I feel like if she isn't I'm going to turn into a pile of ash and dust. "I'm sorry." I say to her trying to hold back the tears and begin to walk out of her room. I wish she could know what I felt. I hear her sigh "sodo wait." She says, the way she says my name makes my heart race. "Would you like to help?" She asks, I smile under my helmet and nod, I begin helping asking where things go, every time I pass by her I intentionally graze my tail against her thigh or forearm, I just want to touch her. Her skin so soft. After about an hour we got quite a few things unpacked, she suggested we take a break and we sit on her bed.

Emily's POV:

"Sodo we should take a break, there so much to unpack, I can't have you here all night helping me." I say to him, I'm so tired it was 10pm we both missed dinner to busy to even stop. "Okay" he says calmly, I sit on the edge of my bed and pat next to me, he eagerly sits beside me. "So sodo, papa told me you had a mate before, that I looked like her. Is that why you wanted me here?" I quietly ask him, hoping I don't offend him by asking this question. He sighs deeply I feel bad for him. "Emily, she left me she tells everyone she was summoned back to hell, but we got in a really bad fight. And she left me and never came back I didn't leave my room for months. At the ritual I saw you, yes you look like her but there was something about you that drew me to you. I can't ignore that. If you are my mate I can't control what happens, it's like my body tells me you're mine but my brain knows you are your own person.." he sighs. "So if you really don't want me I'll back off I don't want to scare you away, I just want to be near you." He says somberly, I hear the shakiness in his voice. "Sodo i.. I don't know, I'm not good with relationships. I always seem to get hurt in the end and I can't go through that again." I say to him he looks at me and tilts his head. "Emily, I'd never do that. Yes I may come on strong and I can be an ass yes. But I can make you happy if you let me." He says hopefully. His voice was so calming, I felt his tail wrap around my waist, I flinched a little it scared me and he immediately pulling it away, I saw the look of concern in his eyes. I didn't want to tell him about my past he didn't need to know. At least not yet. "Emily? Why'd you flinch, did someone hurt you before?" He asks a little anger in his eyes, I saw his eyes start to turn a deep red, even through his mask you could see them. I don't say anything to him, I just look down I feel a knot in my throat but try to choke it away. I didn't want him to see me as some kind of broken record. "Emily, you don't have to tell me, but I'll never do anything to hurt you, I'll never lay a finger on you, and if anyone ever touches you against your will or hurts you, I'll kill them I swear." He says calmly but still a little anger in his voice. I nod. "Thank you." I say shakily. I lean against him. He wraps his arm around my shoulder I feel his tail slowly wrap around my waist again, I feel a sense of warmth and calmness rush through me.
After about an hour of talking and getting to know one another I start feeling tired. "Sodo, I think it's time to go to sleep." I hear him sigh. "Okay, you sleep well I'm waking you up in the morning though." He says I see a smile peek through his mask. I nod he gets up and walks out of the room. I get changed and crawl into bed, the only thing I can think about is how he said he'd do anything to keep me safe. I've never had anyone say that to me. Most the guys I've dated were utter douchebags who used me for sex, especially my most recent. He was mean, cruel even. He hit me once and that was it I left him. But he hit me hard, it left my face red for hours. After a while my mind wanders back to sodo, how sweet he was, he was a shorter guy but still taller than me, he smelt like a campfire and musk, but it smelt wonderful. I slowly drift off to the thought of sodo.

Sodos POV:
I get to my room and can't shake the smile off my face, yes it started off bad but, she leaned against me and I felt so giddy inside. I wish she had asked me to stay with her but I know she doesn't want to move too fast, I just want to know what it feels like to cuddle with her. But my mind kept wandering to her flinching at my touch. Was she in an abusive relationship? I hope she truly knows I wouldn't do that. I don't want her to be uncomfortable, I just want her safe, I want her to be mine, I don't care what I have to do. I crawl into bed and fall asleep with Emily on my mind.
