the black dahlia

DAHLIA
I tucked a brown curl behind my ear, listening to my surroundings. I could hear a quiet tapping sound that went in a smooth rhythm, the noise becoming ever so louder by each second.y

"Dahlia, sweet pea?" My mother said
"What is it now.." I asked, avoiding eye contact
"Do you want to talk to me yet about what happened.." she replied, patting my back

"I told you already, that girl Julieta started cutting my hair" I groaned, showing my uneven locks of hair to prove that I was being truthful
"I highly doubt that, Julieta is from a respectful family" My mother stated, crossing her arms
"She deserved being cut, she's always been a gormless eejit" I ranted, licking her dirty blood off of my fingers

"Dahlia Brona Blythe this is serious, she could've died. You do know she's in hospital right now? I hope you realise that you are ever so lucky that her parents are kind enough not to press chargers!" My mother hissed, losing her patience

I rolled my eyes and waited for her to open the car door so we could leave 'the crime scene'.
"And you are not attending this school anymore" My mother said, opening the metallic car door
"Woo hoo" I cheered sarcastically, sitting down and placing my backpack onto an empty seat

"Don't get so cheerful, missy. You'll be going to Nevermore Academy- Many generations of our family attended Nevermore" My mother smirked, she had obviously been very proud
"Hell no! I do not wish to attend a bloody boarding school for freaks, it'll be a pain in my arse" I demanded

My mother simply rolled her eyes and gave a little wave to Julieta's parents who were giving us dirty looks as they entered their posh, old fashioned car.
I glared at them and gave them a warning by flashing my blood stained knife

They gasped and quickly sat down in their car, their faces green with disgust. I chuckled and noticed my mother widening her eyes
"Don't make me confiscate your phone, Brona" she hissed through her teeth, starting the car
"It's Dahlia, start driving mom.." I mumbled under my breath angrily, flopping my body on the seat

"Don't speak to me like that, or else you'll end up like the black dahlia!" My mother demanded, turning her head around to give me a death stare

"Shiver me timbers!" I whimpered sarcastically

In the long car drive, my mother started preaching about 'respect' and 'kindness". All the pathetic nonsense modern society forces teens to do.

"You'll end up like.." blah.. "you need to respect.." blah. "You're being a brat.." blah "respect others.." BLAH!

My mother always tells me how I'll end up like the black dahlia if I keep being disrespectful, but I'd gladly end up like Elizabeth Short so I could leave this toxic world.

Out of nowhere, I heard a tap on the window door and the car stopped. I turned to look at the window and saw a pale faced women speak to my mother then turned to look at me and grinned

"The black dahlia has returned.."
