The gentle sea breeze caressed my face as I lay on the bed, letting the golden rays of the sun flood my room. The pastel blue decor created a dreamlike atmosphere, but my tranquility was interrupted by a familiar voice echoing from the stairs. Was it her?
With each step she took, her voice became more audible and recognizable. I quickly got up to meet her. And there she was, right at the bottom of the stairs. It was Elizabeth Wright, my childhood best friend. Although we both lived in the Big Apple, our paths intertwined during our vacations in the Hamptons. However, everything changed when her father, a renowned film and television director, decided to move the family to Los Angeles when we were just ten years old.
Elizabeth, or Lizzy as we called her, had a dazzling figure. Her golden hair, like liquid sunshine, framed a radiant and expressive face. Her blue eyes were deep and mysterious, capable of captivating anyone who dared to look into them. Her slender and graceful figure exuded a vibrant and energetic energy. Her presence embodied a free and adventurous spirit, and her spontaneity infected everyone around her.
Joy overcame me at the sight of Lizzy, and I ran down the stairs to greet her. Our hugs and laughter filled the room, and we had breakfast in the kitchen while sharing stories and reminiscing about past summers. Although our lives had taken separate paths, our friendship remained unbreakable.
Lizzy's arrival promised a summer full of emotions, adventures, and shared secrets. Together, we would immerse ourselves in luxurious days of sun and sea, uncovering the charms and challenges that the Hamptons had in store for us.
At that moment, my grandmother entered the kitchen gracefully, holding an exquisite bouquet of peonies in her delicate hands. The gentle fragrance of the flowers filled the air, enveloping us in its intoxicating scent. Her innate elegance shone through her posture and warm smile.
"Elizabeth, my dear, you look radiant," my grandmother said tenderly, her eyes shining as she saw our beloved friend. "It's a pleasure to have you back here. How are your parents?"
Lizzy, always full of energy and vitality, stood up to greet my grandmother with an affectionate hug. "They're doing well, Evelyn. My father is immersed in a new project, and my mother continues to enjoy her role as an executive producer. Both of them are thrilled to know that I'm here spending the summer with my grandparents."
My grandmother gently caressed Lizzy's rosy cheeks, her eyes showing unconditional love. "They must be proud of you, my dear. You've always been a talented and charismatic young woman."
"These are for you, Elizabeth," my grandmother said, gracefully extending the peonies to her. "Directly from our garden. Take them to your grandmother; I'm sure she'll love them."Lizzy took the flowers with gratitude, admiring their ephemeral beauty. "They're absolutely beautiful, Evelyn."
Changing the subject completely, Lizzy looked at me with a mischievous smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Are we going to the beach party today?" she asked with palpable enthusiasm in her voice.
My eyebrows arched in surprise. "What party?" I asked, intrigued by her sudden excitement.Lizzy leaned in closer, her voice filled with contained excitement. "Sarah and her friends have organized a beach party to welcome the summer. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. Even the guys, and I've already set my sights on one of them," she added with a playful wink.My eyes lit up with curiosity as I processed the information. A beach party sounded like the perfect getaway to kick off the summer. And if Lizzy was excited about it, it surely meant it would be an unforgettable event.
I couldn't help but laugh at her comment about having her eye on someone. Lizzy always had a unique and spontaneous way of expressing herself, without filters or inhibitions.
"So, there's a guy who has captured your attention," I replied, playing with mystery in my words. "I guess I'll have to wait and meet this mysterious suitor."
Lizzy burst into laughter, her eyes dancing with complicity. "Oh, my friend, I assure you he won't disappoint. He's simply gorgeous, and his charm is undeniable," she said, winking at me playfully. "Although I must confess that it's not just me who has caught his attention. It seems like we're all on his radar..." she added, letting out a theatrical sigh.
I couldn't help but laugh at her comment. Lizzy always had that knack for attracting guys, but she never managed to have anything serious. "Well, Lizzy, let's see what happens tonight," I replied, playing with uncertainty in my voice. "Who knows, maybe I'll meet someone special too."
Lizzy burst into laughter and gave me a gentle push on the shoulder. "Lottie, it's about time you find your ideal guy. You're going to start growing gray hairs at this rate."
I raised an eyebrow in response, while my smile widened. "What are you going to wear today?"
