How Charming

Chapter 1

It was not difficult to climb up the side of the castle. I had proven that many times. I was surprised this was not a bigger concern for the guards. Without any trouble some random person could just climb up the stone exterior and enter through a window. Just because it is easy to climb the walls, doesn't mean that it's easy to evade the guards as you do so. It must have looked ridiculous to anyone who saw the event. Six grown men chasing a teen girl as she did parkour on the roof of the palace. However, I was not one to go down without a fight, and it was not my fault if they were horrible at climbing. I took a second and saw that most were still climbing up. A few were behind me, but we were too high up for them to get me down. I sat down on the ledge. I liked to look off the roof. I used to be content with looking off of my balcony, but the queen ordered that the balcony door be sealed shut. So really it's her fault that I'm on the roof right now. She shouldn't have locked me out of the balcony.

"Get down right now, young lady!" My uncle bellowed. I wasn't scared of him. He had no power over me, despite the crown glistening on his head. I pretended I couldn't hear him from up here. I wasn't going to fall, I've done this three times in the last month. We were past the point of shock or surprise..

I sat on the ledge and could see most of the kingdom. The commoners were walking on the road. I always wondered what it would have been like to be commoner. I think it would be better than this. Everyone says I have it easy, but those people haven't seen the lashes on my back. "Addy! You can't be stupid enough to be up there again." I look down to see who said it, and am not surprised to see my brother standing on his balcony. I hated that he still got one and I didn't, but at least I have the roof.

"I'm a lot of things, if one of them's stupid then so be it." I said with a smirk. He tried to lecture me, but I wasn't listening. I love Logan, but he's a prick, he has been since we shared a womb.

"Adelaide, just get down!" He kept yelling.

"La la la I can't hear you!" I said plugging my ears. I just wanted some peace and quiet, why was everyone trying to rain on my parade?

I barely got a good look at everything, before I felt breath on my neck and someone's presence behind me. "Princess, you need to get down, it's dangerous." I heard a low voice say and I instantly knew which guard it was.

I shake my head in disappointment. "Jackson, it took you longer than last time to get up here. I think you need to practice." I say not bothering to look at him. I wait for his response, but get nothing in return.

"The queen is going to be furious." He said as if I wouldn't know. I did indeed know it would make her mad, in fact it was one of the main reasons I did anything. My brother hated it when I made our aunt angry, I don't know why. Afterall, he never got punished for my infuriating actions. "Come on princess, I'll help you get down." He offered. He was being delusional. Anyone who knew me for an hour knew that I don't give up easily.

"If the queen is furious then why would I want to get down." I stand by my reasoning. I don't want to leave the view to be greeted by a face that is the embodiment of 'friends close enemies closer'.

Jackson just sighed, he didn't hate me like some of the guards. He always seemed to care about me, but he was also a tad fed up with me. "Princess, either come with me willingly, or I'll have to carry you." He said, and I laughed. I laughed for a really long time and watched as Jackson got more annoyed with me.

"You're not serious. You can't carry me while climbing down, we'd both die." I said still chuckling a little at the remark not meant to be a joke. Normally right now Jackson would try to chase me and it would take a long time, but after a few hours he and his men would succeed. That's not what he did. Jackson sat down next to me.
