Damien 🥀"So, what are your plans for the wedding?" Dad asks as he swirls and take a sip of his scotch.
After the dinner all of us moved to the sitting area. The fireplace in the middle giving the needed warmth in the chilly yet relaxed weather.
"What plans? It's just a wedding." I say in a dry tone as I rest my right elbow on my knee and left hand reached to grab my scotch glass.
"Yes, but it is your wedding. Any requests?"
I give him a side eye and shake my head lightly.
Dad's smile slowly faded; mom nudged him her elbow.
Zaria's dad cleared his throat.
It is what it is.
We're not a loving and romantic couple, so why need any plans?
It's just a waste of time.
And if Zaria wants it to happen a certain way, then she's free to do so as long as she doesn't drag me into it.
"I knew you won't be engaging in it, so I already talked to a wedding planner and I'll plan it myself with Zaria" Mom said as she patted Zaria's shoulder and gave her a warm smile. Mom knows me well.
"Ah I'm not sure about my plans yet." Zaria says shyly.
"It's alright, honey. We can discuss it eventually. Tell me when you are free to meet the wedding planner." Mom comforted her.
"There's no time. This wedding will happen in 2 weeks." I announce.
All of them look at me shocked. Some of them have their jaws on the floor too.
"Are you kidding me?" Mom snaps.
"You know I don't like to waste my time" I say as a matter of fact.
"Yes, but that's about business! This is your personal life" mom continues with a warning look "Don't you say this is also a business to you."
Only if she knew.
I didn't tell my parents about the real reason for this marriage. They're not aware of the Clark situation.
I told them that me and Zaria kind of like each other and both of us wanted to jump straight to marriage, forgoing the dating stage.
At first, my parents weren't convinced but they didn't question any further because me being ready for a marriage was already a big jackpot for them. I love that they didn't pry much.
"I've got some important business trip coming up so it's better if we get it all done before that." I said as I sipped on my drink.
It wasn't a lie; I do have an important business trip coming up.
"So push them back. Cancel them. It's not just your wedding, Damien. It's hers too." Mom points to Zaria, her anger solely towards me, "Did you ask her?"
All the eyes shift to Zaria.
She meets my eyes and I quirk my eyebrow. The ball is in your court, Zaria. Don't mess this up.
"I knew, Mahika. It's fine. How about we meet the wedding planner tomorrow? We have a lot to plan." Her enthusiastic voice could fool anyone but me.
I made a mocking cheers movement and her eyes flared with anger. She looked breathtaking with the yellow-orange flames from the fire pit shining upon her. Golden flecks wavered in her gray eyes like thunder in storm clouds.
Mom blew a sigh and eyes us both suspiciously.
She reached out to offer her a glass of wine, but Zaria refused politely before she could even pour into the glass, "Sorry, but I don't drink."
