NOW PLAYING "SOS" By SZA

Slowms District, Nue York

7:30 PM

After landing softly into the window of her cavernous one-bedroom apartment, Lola unzips the back of her mask and takes a breath. She looks over to her body-length mirror and smiles, proud of herself. The little suit from the party store wasn't all that bad after she got through with it. It was all white with little green lines that connected like webs all over and a small spider with an "S" on its rear placed in the middle of her chest. It was a bit messy, considering she painted it herself. But it wasn't that hard, it was like Advanced nail art. She unzipped the rest and let the cloth fall to the ground, sighing.

"Today has been a tough one," She said to herself, stretching and heading to the bathroom. She lights a vanilla-scented candle, turns on the tap to let the hot water run, and then turns on her cube-shaped speaker to play"SOS". She walks back to grab some clothes, of course, still keeping her suit at the ready in case anyone had any ideas. Hopping into the warm water made all of the bones in her body melt. This was nice. After a full day of being a full-time Nail tech and superhero, this was all she needed. Just, time to herself.

Today was her 21st birthday, believe it or not, and she had no one to celebrate it with. She had no friends, her parents were long dead and gone and her aunt disappeared after trying to save her. She frowned, thinking about her Aunt. Aunt Melina was the only one she had left after her parent's died in that mass shooting years ago. She was everything. Melina gave her warm food, a roof over her head, and someone to come home to after work. Now, Lola has no one to keep her company except the mice that occasionally visit her kitchen in the winter.

To say she was lonely would be an insulting understatement. She craved interaction, she wanted nothing more. But her stupid powers make that impossible. It's either she's too overwhelmed to even start a conversation or she's too tired to try. Lola closes her eyes and sinks her head under the water, letting it take her. As she held her breath, she focuses on the thumping of her heartbeat.

Lola sat there contemplating if she should just let go, suck in the water, and drown to her death. But the thought was washed away by the image of what her city would be like without her.  Nue York has gotten a lot better ever since she arrived. She's stopped cartels, fought the worst humans, and destroyed some terrifying monsters; all in two years.

Before, the government would let the villains do as they pleased, Meaning there was no one to help. People were dying in the masses, left and right from violent outbursts. Like what happened to her parents. Lola hated dwelling on the past, but when you're alone with nothing else to do, it kinda happens.

As she felt herself running out of air, she softly moves her head above the water. Finally letting out a deep breath. She took a minute to settle her breathing before sinking her head back in the water up to her nose, letting her eyes watch as her candle slowly burns away.

After sitting like that for a few minutes, she lifts herself to properly wash herself. Once pleased with her scent, she slowly arose from the bath; wrapping herself in a warm towel. After gently unbraiding her curly hair, she took a spray bottle to saturate it. She ran her conditioner-filled hands through each section, before proceeding to braid her locks back into two. After slipping on her clothes she trots off to her small living room. plopping herself onto her couch, letting out a breath of relief.

"Finally." She said. But just as she did, something rang in her ears. Lola sat up and looked around carefully, adjusting to what it was. She finally caught onto a signal of an alarm going off. She groaned as she drowsily got up.
