~chapter fourteen~
"What did you say? I don't understand you!"Tiffany's voice tried to cut through the pounding music. There must have been fifty or sixty people in that room. How
should you dance with sixty people around? But Dario didn't feel like dancing at the moment anyway."I don't see Andy anywhere,'' he said, looking at the small sofas.
"What did you say?"
"That I don't see Andy anywhere!'' he repeated and had this times his mouth close to Tiffany's ear.
"So what? You just got into an argument with him. Come on, relax, it's a party, he'll be somewhere having fun."
"What did you say?"
"He'll have fun! Have some fun too!"
Raising her arms above her head, Tiffany dropped to her knees and rose to the rhythm of the music, rubbing against Dario.
"Where can he be?"
"Stop it! Do you see me at all?"
"What's going on?"
"What's up? I'm here!"
Tiffany smiled at him, her white teeth glistening wetly.
"I've had enough," he said. "Come on let us go."
"Why? So what do you want? Don't you like dancing?"
"I don't feel like it. Let's go."
Tiffany took his face in her hands and kissed him on the mouth.
Dario stared at her. No, sweetheart, keep your hands off me, he thought, it's not doing you any good. It's not good for you to hook up with someone like me, I'm a slob, everyone knows that, the whole school knows that, everyone knows that Dario is a slob who'll never get anywhere. Don't start with a shit that will never get anywhere.
Tiffany pressed her hands against his cheeks. "Hey, I don't care that you're weird!" she yelled against the pounding music. "I'm weird too!", and she kissed him again, a soft, wet kiss, a promise. "Come on, let's have a drink!"
They left the dance floor and crossed the room. "There he is!" Tiffany said, pointing to the archway behind the house.
"Who?"
"Andy. There, do you see him? Are you calmed down now?"
One of the large windows overlooked the garden and the edge of the pool, crowded with people. They clapped like a parade while some girls carried Andy on a pool lounger like a procession. It looked like a church holiday, only the candles and the altar boys who followed the procession were missing." What are they doing there?"
''You don't care. You have fun. don't you see that Andy is having fun too?"
The girls lowered Andy into the shallow water as he laughed and rocked his torso back and forth. Sam had removed his shirt and pants and now there was just a small, half-naked god posing under the eyes of the reveling faithful
passed his throne. And sang.... "partoviu... partoviu..." he roared while the people laughed and didn't understand a word, because the language of the gods isn't for everyone.
