POV - CARL GRIMES

Carl walked along with the group, baby Judith in his arms. It had been days since they had any food or water. Rick was constantly pushing the group, trying to take as few breaks as possible. It was hot and made everyone feel sticky. Carl felt like he was growing faster, though he felt like it couldn't have been but a week since Terminus, of course it was longer than that. Judith began to whine in his arms and he sighed tiredly. "It's okay.....It's okay Judith." He whispered as he held the baby close to him, he gently rubbed the babies back trying to soothe her.

"I can take her." Carol said as she stepped up before offering her opened arms. Looking down to the baby he grew a sided frown, as if he was unsure. "She'll be okay...." Carol said giving him a soft smile. He looked down to his baby sister and decided it would be okay before handing Judith to Carol. After Carol went back to her previous spot in the group, Carl caught up with his dad in the front. "What are we doing here dad?" Carl asked looking at the ground. Rick sighed and shook his head. "I'm not sure yet son." He said before looking over to the younger boy beside him. He gave Carl a sided smile before turning his eyes back to the road. "Its been days since we've had any food..." Carl said as his eyes set on his stomach.

Rick put an arm around the boys shoulders and sighed. "I know...." He stated lowly, the group had been practically starving. Forcing their bodies to push through the heat, it was harsh. Carl had been pushing himself more than he should have, he felt like he had a weight on his shoulders being the leaders son and all. He felt like he had to really prove himself. "Do you think we could take a break and a few of us go hunting?" Carl asked looking from his dad to the woods surrounding the road they all traveled on. Rick thought for a moment, gun still in arms. He paused and turned to the group.

"I think we need a break...maybe a few of us go hunting?" He questioned as he looked from Carl to Daryl. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea." Sasha said as she looked over to Bob. The wound on his shoulder was still healing but it was doing a lot better. Sasha had just been helping him keep it clean, she figured the break would be nice so she could check it. Carol looked down to Judith and nodded. "Yeah, that sounds good." She said looking to Sasha. before nodding to Rick. The rest of the group decided it was okay and Rick nodded. "Okay, me...Daryl, and Carl will go....everyone else stay here. I guess we need a few lookouts. Abraham, Glenn?" He looked over to the taller redheaded man, and then over to Maggie and Glenn. The men nodded and Rick motioned for Daryl to come over.

The three walked away from the group and to the edge of the woods. Carl had really only went hunting once, that was before Terminus. Rick had showed him how to set a trap and that was about it. He had only gotten close to a deer one time and that was at the beginning, right before he got shot. "So, what do we do?" Carl asked out of curiosity as they ventured through the woods, stepping over briar patches. Even though he put on a mature act, it would fail sometimes and he would act more his age. Like he was doing then, a smile crept on his face as he looked over to Rick and looked around the woods. Daryl was looking for tracks in the front as Rick stood beside Carl. "Well, really ya' first gotta find tracts. Then find the freshest ones." Daryl told the younger boy as he waved him over. Rick smiled as he watched his son happily make his way over to Daryl. Carl held a wide smile as he looked down to the ground where Daryl pointed.

He looked over the dirt in front of him, it had been trampled by something. Leaves were overturned and there were imprints of an animal on the ground. Carl looked over the tracks and furrowed his brows. "It's small....maybe like a rabbit or something." He said looking over to the bigger man beside him. Daryl nodded as he showed him the rest of the tracks and pointed along the trail. Rick stood behind the pair smiling. He still held the gun up incase any threats crossed their path. The sun had hit right in the middle of the sky as the three made their way through the woods. Carl found himself actually having fun as he followed beside Daryl who was pointing out the trail to him. Daryl looked ahead and stopped tracking for the time being, his eyes set on the rabbit they had been tracking out in the distance. "There." He whispered as he nudged Carl and pointed to the brown rabbit. It wouldn't be enough to fill anyone up but it would have to work. The rabbit was sat beside a tree stump digging around a patch of leaves. Carl nodded and watched as Daryl cocked his bow, what surprised him was when he handed it to Carl. "Here, you do it." He said giving the boy a smile.
