A/N: ok so I recently got back into this show Bones after a few years and started shipping Zack and Jack lmao. I've been reading all the fanfiction for them I could find (which is sadly not much) and I literally dreamt what I'm boutta write here XD (that's sounds bad but this is just a cute little thing nothing more lol)
Zack Addy and Dr. Hodgins are currently in Hodgins' office space discussing potential future experiments. Well I say discussing, but it's mostly Hodgins talking and Zack listening, occasionally nodding or shaking his head in response.
Both of them sit in swivel chairs, a few feet apart, Zack faintly swaying from side to side, staring intently, as Hodgins rambles on, flapping his hands around excitedly. Yet, Zack's gaze never strays from his face.
Hodgins noticed something was off almost immediately, but thought perhaps he would engage in conversation on one of their favorite topics. Surely he would chime in eventually, right?
Alas, he did not.
After going too long without hearing his voice, Hodgins went silent, attempting to match his best friend's current demeanor. "Why did you stop?" Zack asked, looking as if he'd just been awoken from a trance, "Are you doing okay man? You seem different." Hodgins said, concerned.
"What do you mean? I'm fine. Why do you ask?" Zack quickly says. Hodgins leans forward slightly, worry creeping onto his face, "You're usually more enthused about our experiment talks." He lowers his voice to a calming whisper, "What's going on Zack? You can tell me."
Zack glances downward, "I-I just..." His eyes shoot back up, "Can I ask you something?"
Hodgins smiles and, while relaxing and leaning back in his chair, says, "Shoot."
"This may be a question one would refer to as 'personal'. Is that ok?" Zack asks, wanting reassurance.
Without missing a beat, "Lay it on me." Hodgins laughs, taking a sip from a glass of water next to him.
Zack swallows, and takes a breath, "Have you ever been with- or ever wanted to be with- a man?"
Hodgins chokes on his water, spitting it everywhere, startling Zack, who now has water droplets covering his lab coat, *cough cough* "Wha-" *cough cough cough*
Once he finally catches his breath, Hodgins calmly attempts, "No. No I haven't. Ever." He sees Zack's face turning into a vague twinge of sadness, "Have you?"
"No. Never." He coldly replies.
They sit in silence for a moment before Hodgins realizes he has to be the one to continue the coversation, "So...?" "Have you ever wondered what it would be like?" Zack interrupts.
"What? Being with a man?" Hodgins ponders for a moment before proceeding, "Honestly, I've never really thought about it."
"What about now? You're thinking about it now, so, are you wondering?" Zack pushes. "I...guess." Hodgins replies wearily.
A corner of Zack's mouth curls up for a split second, "Ok, I have a followup question."
"Go ahead." Hodgins begrudgingly says as he pinches his forehead, fearing what could possibly follow this.
Zack appears nervous. Sweetly, he asks: "Can I kiss you?"
At this Hodgins halts his movements, eyes wide open, frozen. Through stiffened lips he manages to say, "A-are you..? D-Do you have...feelings-?" "There's no feelings involved, Dr. Hodgins." Zack complies, "This is merely curiosity."
"Cur-curiosity?" Hodgins begins to relax, "Yes. I only wish to understand how kissing a man would feel, versus kissing a woman. I like to learn." Zack nonchalantly says, "Perhaps if you'd thought of it as an experiment."
Hodgins breaths deeply, slowly. "Right. An experiment. Experimenting on my feelings." He says in a mocking tone.
He thinks for a moment, weighing the pros and cons, "Well, I suppose if it's quick." He looks around quickly, making sure no one is around to see, "Alright fine. I am kinda curious. Let's do it."
They both rise up from their chairs, and find themselves inches away from each other.
Zack looks down at Hodgins, "Are you sure? I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable."
"Just do it." Hodgins says exasperatedly, thinking 'oh now you don't want to make me uncomfortable', looking up into the eyes of this tall genius.
And in an instant, Zack leans down and plants his lips on Hodgins', both closing their eyes.
Hodgins had said he'd wanted this to be quick, and its been 5 seconds. Now 10 seconds..20...30. After nearly 40 seconds they finally pulled away, opening their eyes and staring at each other intensely. "Hodgins?" Zack started weakly, "Yeah?" Hodgins replied, seemingly out of breathe, "I think feelings may be involved now."
"Ya think?"
