Rainbow Steve sat up in his bed the next morning feeling only a little bit better.

The previous night, after long hours of rushing thoughts, he'd decided to just sleep on it and decide what to do later. His anxiety was already starting to grip him the moment he resurfaced from the peaceful realm of unconsciousness.

Maybe he'd pretend that that kiss never happened, or the entire day was just a dream.

'Maybe I could use it to my advantage in battle?' Rainbow shook his head at the intrusive thought as he begrudgingly stepped out of bed. No, no that would just be cruel. Having a strategic advantage is one thing; playing with your opponent's feelings is a whole other thing entirely. But then what could he do? And were there any actual feelings involved anyways? Ugh.

Rainbow eventually decided that he would still think about it, but until then he should just get some breakfast.

The groggy man walked downstairs to the kitchen they'd just recently installed in the Rainbow House, meaning to get himself some cereal. But when he stepped off of that last step, he saw that Sabre had left a sign on the floor, and the steve walked over to read it. (Holy moly that's a lot of S's 😅)

They read, "Hey Rainbow Steve! I was called offline for a little bit to help a buddy out, but I shouldn't be gone for long. I'll probably be back before noon, dw :)" And on a second sign, "Eat some breakfast, you need the energy. Get some Rainbow Stone if you really need it, and make sure to stay safe! BBS! :D -PS. I cleaned up most of the mess before I left, so you should be good with that."

Rainbow Steve smiled. What would he do without his best friend?

He went to sit down, and continued eating the rest of his Fruit Loops before going outside to feed Fake Lucas and the nation of Fake Sabres.

The man was kneeling down, feeding them seeds and wheat, the events of yesterday drifting around in his mind when he heard blasts of lightning coming from just outside the Rainbow Wall gate. Rainbow looked up, eyes wide. There was only one person that could be... but he had to be sure.

And so, the multicolored Steve stood up and locked the animals in their pens. He patted Fake Sabre and Fake Lucas on the head and went to the chests, putting away the food and feeding supplies. He grabbed a dagger just in case, and then finally started walking over to the gate.

By that point, the lightning had completely stopped, but the colorful man knew its source wouldn't be far. So Rainbow Steve just kept walking along. He stepped cautiously, for this could still be a trap.

The man looked all throughout the trees, peeking around their trunks and glancing at their branches. And yet he failed to notice the presence following him through the path, getting gradually closer and closer until it was just inches behind the other.

Rainbow Steve felt a small breath on his neck and swiftly turned around, dagger unsheathed and ready to strike a blow to his attacker.

But when he spun 'round and thrust, no blow was made. His wrist was caught just in time before harming the man at the other end of the knife. Rainbow Steve's eyes widened as they met the ruby red eyes of a very startled Nightmare Steve.
