"You don't have what it takes to be like those women, Ayana. You're just a little girl in denial," my Mom stated, making me clench my fists. And to think that my insane mother would have actually let me do any sport was dumb. Even my dad wasn't fond of it. No one was. I was the only one in my family that thought about doing sports.
"Fine. I'll play what I want, then. I don't need you to tell me that I'm going to fail at that, too," I spoke, shaking my head. That, coming out of my mouth was one thing that pissed my mother off. She stomped up to me with that angry face, slapping me across the face.
"Don't talk back to me."
"Sierra," we both heard a very alarming voice from behind Mom. It was Dad, who had witnessed her hand hitting my face. He walked up to Mom, gave her a death stare, then spoke again, "hit our kid again, and I swear..."
"So she can just talk to me like some kid from her school? No, I will not let that happen!" my Mom said, her anger rising the more she looked at me. I just stood behind my dad, shocked and angry. My Dad glanced at me, checking to see if I was hurt. Then my mom scoffed.
"Of course, you take her side. You need to be helping me out! I can't just handle all of this!" just as she said that, she approached me, raising her fist. I flinched, holding my arms up to guard my face. I was expecting her hand in my face, but nothing happened. Instead, my mom's hand was wrapped in spiderwebs. Purple spiderwebs. That came out of my wrist. My eyes widen in surprise. What the hell was actually happening?
"What... the..." my mom began pulling against the webbing, but I furrowed my eyebrows, pulling back. My dad was observing the webs that were attached to my mother's arms. The webbing finally loosened, retracting back to my wrists. my mind was filled with questions. What was I, the Spiderman? Or Spiderwoman? Was was this illusion!?
"You... you saw that, correct?" my mom whispered to my father, who was too stunned to peep a word out of his mouth. I sighed, rubbing the wrist that had shot thhe web out, looking down.
"Ayana... what are you hiding from us?" Dad asked, tilting his head in confusion. I shrugged. There was only one conclusion to this:
"I might actually be a... Spiderwoman."Now I'm twenty four, and the Spiderwoman powers being a regular thing now. There was many benefits to it. One bad benifit? If I actually became a hero, I would never be able to brag about the hidden powers within me. But, that was definitely something I could live with.
Just another evening in New York-- pouring rain. It was calming. Something that I'm thankful happens. But it wasn't so calming today. I was having a smoke, like any depressing day, when a yellow portal opened. I stared at it for a long second, watching it as if a human would be expected to show up, which it wasn't expected. In fact, a human did appear, but was in some sort of costume? He was tall, that's for sure, but he was also super muscular. His face was masked, and he stood before me, pausing as he glanced over at me.
"Ayana, is it?" he asked, pointing at my direction. This was definitely a villian. I stood more alarmed, tossing my burning cigarette in a big water puddle. Before I could act, he shot a spiderweb my way, in which I dodged. I shot a web towards him, and he grabbed it as if it was nothing.
"Who is this!?" I asked, dodging every web coming my way. the man chuckled, launching his ridiculously huge body towards me. I moved, switching sides in the alleyway with him.
"That's not an answer, person," I spoke sarcastically, breathing heavily, Man, was I out of shape. He laughed at me, shaking his head.
"You're a funny one, aren't you?" his deep voice spoke, catching me by surpruse. It wasn't just an intimidating low, it was an attractive low, too. Now I was just curious to see the face behind his red and blue mask. Just before I could leap into the air, he wrapped his red webbing around me, typing me up. I groan, standing all tied up. he pulled me towards him, pushing me against the wall. Not only was he good at this, he was incredibly strong.
"Got you," he said, his face now close to mine. I laughed, struggling agaisnt the web.
"You're also funny, aren't you?" I spoke, my face now giving him an irratated look. The more he kept me agianst the wet, uncomfortable brick wall, the more I could feel his eyes piercing into me.
"Was this all you were here for? To stare at me in this awkward situation?"
"How could you tell I was staring at your face?" he asked. I shrug.
"I can feel when someone is staring at me," I continued to look at him. Then... silence. It was an awkward silence that sort of came with sexual tension. It felt like he was about to kiss me. Was he? What was he doing? I probably look ridiculous.
"So, I see you've found our new recruit, Ayana Diallo," said a robot AI thing, standing on the man's shoulder. Recruit, I thought. Recruit for what? Maybe he'll explain it to me.
"I guess I have," he spoke, taking the webbing off me. My eyebrows pushed together in confusion as I heard their conversation.
"Welcome to the Spider Society."
"Pardon... Recruit?" I raised an eyebrow, a little caught off guard from the last two sentences I heard.
"Yes."
"Wow," I heard a familiar female voice say from the enterance of the alleyway. I looked over to see my cousin Kat staring at the man trapping me against the wall. He stood up immediately, clearing his throat.
"We do not speak of this," he spoke at Kat, "and you... meet me here tomorrow. At ten." he then disappeared into the yellow portal.
"Um... was that real? Or was I--"
"It was definitely real, Kat. It most certainly was," I clarified everything, still against the wall.
"Mind telling me how?"
"No, just... let's go. I've had an long night."
