"y-you like b-b-birds, r-right?" bill stammered, sitting next to stan at the lunch table while the other losers went on about something that neithwr bill or stan wanted to take part in.

"yeah, i do," stan replied curiously. "why?"

"no r-reason." bill looked down at his sandwich as a smile crept up on his face.

all the losers were sitting and eating lunch relatively far away from the rest of the people in the cafeteria, which wasn't abnormal. they were consistently treated as outcasts, but they didn't really mind, considering the fact they knew they were losers.

"what're you two talking about?" bev said curiously, looking at stan, then bill. bill seemed slightly lost in her eyes, which made stan tense up slightly.

"birds. why?" stan said, with a sharp edge to his voice that he didn't intend. bill slightly elbowed him, and he flinched slightly, giving bill a 'what the fuck was that for?' glance. it would've been a glare if it were literally anyone else, but he couldn't bring himself to glare at bill- never in a million years.

"oh, no reason! just curious, especially since you two are always making your own conversations, heh." bev replied with her signature lovely smile. stan felt a pang of something in his heart as bill's face flushed a bright rosy pink, likely jealousy.

"y-yeah, i guess w-w-we are." bill said, blinking as he pulled his gaze away from her eyes. "i-if you'd l-like, w-we could partic-participate m-m-more."

"sure! we were just talking about how kids keep going missing." bev replied, the smile fading off of her face into a truthful frown. "we think you should keep a close eye on georgie, yknow."

"m-m-makes s-sense." the boy replied, looking over to see stan frowning and keeping quiet as he avoided participating in the conversation. "hey stan, w-wanna g-go eat in the l-l-library?"

stan's face immediately lit up with a sort of hopefulness in his eyes. he was finally getting a chance to just talk to bill again, like he so desperately wanted to do forever. "uh- sure," he said as a small smile crept up onto his face.

as the two boys walked to the library, they didn't say much- there wasn't much to be said. even though they talked a lot sometimes, just as frequently they just spoke without words. they had been best friends for longer than either of them could remember, so they knew each other better than likely anyone else in the losers club. they were close. very much so. and they absolutely loved it.

it felt like angels were singing into both of their ears while walking. they loved doing this together, and they always had. nothing- not even bev being in bill's life- would ever change the way they spent time together. even bill knew that stan was special to him in a way neither of them could quite comprehend. they would never ever admit it to anyone, but they loved each other.

birds of a feather, bill thought. stan loves birds.
