MIAMI, FLORIDA
SUNDAY MAY 8,2021
10:45pm"Althaea hurry up before we're late!" Her grandmother screamed from downstairs.
Quickly putting on her shoes, and doing once over in the mirror before grabbing her purse and rushing downstairs. "Im done granny." She said, breathing heavily.
"Girl what's wrong withchu'? I told you to go to bed, you gon make us late on this good Sunday to celebrate the lord."
"I'm sorry." Althaea apologized, she wanted to get to church too but she was tired and her alarm didn't wake her. "I bet she was trying to look cute for Malik." Her brother Jayden teased, turning around on the couch to look at them.
"Jayden shut up." Althaea bickered, her cheeks turning a light red. He knew she liked the Malik, having the biggest crush on him since they were eight.
"Jayden leave ya' sista alone. You lucky I'm letting you stay home from church." Granny defended her.
"Let's go Althea." Althaea nodded, following her grandmother out of the door not before smoothly giving her brother the middle finger.
"Granny do we gotta take that old Cadillac?" Althaea whined, already feeling like the Miami heat was cooking her alive.
"Girl, getcho ass in this car." Granny directed, getting into the old 1980's Cadillac. "Granny you ain't been holy, cursing on this holy Sunday." Althaea voiced, walking to the other side, opening the squeaky door before plopping in.
"God gon forgive me."
"Mhm." Althaea struggled a minute trying to close the stubborn door. Letting out a sigh when the door finally shut. "Granny you need a new car." Althaea stayed, while putting on her set belt.
Althaea loved her grandmother but she wouldn't trust this car with her life, so being safe was for extra measures. "Chile hush, as long as we can get to where we going without no problems we should be fine."
"Now let's go." Granny said, putting the car into drive. The car yanking them forward upon force of the gas pedal.
Althaea took an exaggerated sigh, she knew either her grandmother would kill her or the car would. And at the time it looking like 50/50 to her.
"You need a new car." Althaea huffed. "You got new car money Thae?" Granny asked, looking at her granddaughter. After receiving no response, she took the key out of ignition and put it back it finally worked.
"Thought so."
It was completely silence on the way to church, only the soft sound of church music playing on the radio. "Chile ain't got no typa sense." Althaea grandmother commented, as they passed the group of boys standing in a group.
