"Hello? Is anyone in there?" I banged on the metal door repeatedly.
I waited there at the door for about five minutes until I finally gave up and started to walk back down the stairs. Suddenly the door opened behind me and out peeked a light brown haired man with tan skin and a slit eyebrow.
His hair was tied up into a little ponytail and he was wearing a light blue shirt that was two sizes too big for him.
"What could be so important that you're banging on the door at this time?" He asked. His voice was deep and scratchy and he rubbed his eyes aggressively.
"It's five in the afternoon." I said coldly.
He opened his eyes wider and finally gave me his attention.
"Anyway, are you Hong Woo-Jin?" I asked.
"Why are you asking?" He raised an eyebrow.
"By any chance do you know Choi Hyun-Ju?" I questioned.
Once I asked him, another man ran to the door and opened it wider revealing the spotless apartment behind them.
"Woo-Jin." He spoke, voice also tired out.
"Hm?" He tilted his head.
"Who's this?" He asked.
"My name is Hong Soo-Jin. I live a couple of houses away." I introduced myself hoping they wouldn't ask any other questions about who I am.
"How do you know Hyun-Ju?" The man with shorter hair and softer eyes asked.
"We went to high school together." I went into my bag to show them a picture of me and Hyun-Ju together.
They looked at each other with questionable looks.
"Give me a second I need to find something.." I said.
I pulled out the picture and showed it to them. Woo-Jin took the picture out of my hands and compared my face and the photo.
"Are you sure this is you?" The other one hesitated.
"Okay, I know I was not the best looking in high school but don't rub it in." I snatched the picture and sucked my teeth.
"Um do you want to come in?" The doe eyed one asked me.
I nodded my head and stepped in.
__________
" No wonder why I lost contact with her. I haven't seen or heard from her for the last three years. I've been so worried. God, I feel so terrible."
Woo-Jin and Geon-Woo had told me the story with Hyun-Ju and Mr. Choi. This whole time I thought she was just ignoring me but actually she was out there, somewhere, mourning.
"Yeah... all we know is that she left the country after Mr. Choi died." Woo-Jin said slowly.
It was quiet and awkward for a moment but then I chose to break the silence.
"Have you guys had breakfast?"
They blinked at each other and shook their heads.
"Let's go!"
__________
"So you said your names Hong Soo-Jin?" Woo-Jin questioned.
"Mhm." I nodded my head.
"Oh! That kind of sounds like your name Woo-Jin!" Geon-Woo exclaimed with a big bright smile on his face.
Woo-Jin looked at Geon-Woo like, 'are you serious?'
I giggled at how cute and clueless Geon-Woo was.
"Do you guys drink?" I asked.
"Well, he can't and I don't." Geon-Woo responded.
"Why can't you?" I questioned.
"A couple years ago, my house was attacked and I was stabbed in my stomach by one of the men who broke in." He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Holy shit. That's terrible, I'm so sorry." My eyes widened.
"It's fine. I'm all better now, everything's okay." He hung his low.
"Oh, okay then. What about you? You don't drink, why?" I tilted my head.
"I just don't like to. Nothing in particular." He answered.
"Oh. Well, have you tried it before?" I asked.
"Yeah but, not because I wanted to, ha." He rubbed the back of his hair slowly.
"Oh, okay well. Thanks for letting me know." I paused.
The looked at each other for a minute then looked back at me.
"Excuse me, waitress! I'll have three bottles of soju, please." I told her.
"Three?!" They whisper yelled at the same time.
"Yes. Since you guys can't drink, I'll drink for all three of us! Ta-da!" I put up jazz hands and smiled ear to ear.
They looked at each other with confused looks.
"Oh, will you two stop doing that. I'm starting to feel left out." I crossed my arms and we all laughed together.
