Jillian was looking at the wedding picture that was sitting in the living room on the end table, she couldn't believe that it had been 6 months already since Nathan died. It seemed like just yesterday that it happened.
It was a beautiful morning and they were sitting outside on the front deck drinking their morning coffee and watching the people walk and drive by. Nathan had the day off of work so they had planned to have a picnic in the park.
The morning had past by quickly so they got the picnic basket ready to go.
They didn't live too far from the park and they also lived along the lake, on their way to the park they were able to walk along side the lake.
Jillian and Nathan slowly made there way to the park. When they got there they searched for the perfect spot to have their picnic. Jillian spotted a tall tree with lots of shade, she pointed it out and they walked in that direction.
Nathan spread out the blanket and Jillian set out the food on the blanket.
Just as they were about to sit down a big white van came close by and parked, it was as if the people in the vehicle were watching the two. Jillian didn't pay much attention to it but Nathan did. It was like he knew who it was and she saw a look of fear in his eyes. Nathan stood up to check things out and Jillian stoop up after him. He stared intently at the van as if something was going to happen. Suddenly the man in the driver seat of the van pulled out a gun. Nathan quickly reacted and yelled to Jillian "GET DOWN!!!!" She didn't understand what was going on. Then there were shots fired and she saw Nathan go down, then she felt a pain in her leg and she went down. When she fell she hit her head on a rock and she passed out. The next thing she remembered was waking up in the hospital. When she woke up she struggled to get up, she wanted to see Nathan. She yelled and cried, "I want to see Nathan. Where is Nathan?" Hailey her best friend was sitting beside her and trying to keep her calm. She didn't want to tell her just yet but it looked like she had no choice. She told Jillian that Nathan had died. He didn't even make it to the hospital.
Ever since that day she has not been able to leave the house or even step outside much. They hadn't been married for long just 5 months. Why did it have to happen? Who were those people? She never did get her answers of what went on. All of the sudden she heard a knock at the door and she was snapped back into reality once more. She put the picture down, wiped the tears from her eyes and answered the door. It was her best friend Hailey.
Hailey and Jillian had been friends since they were in high school. After graduation they stuck pretty close. Went to the same college, were roommates, and lived together for a while after that. Hailey had been helping Jillian through a lot of this. She would go buy groceries for her and get her whatever she needed. She understood that Jillian was scared to go outside but it was time that she did.
"Oh, hey Hailey. What are you doing here? I don't think I need anything today." Jillian said in a mono-tone voice without a smile on her face.
"I'm not here to get you anything. I'm here to get you out of the house. It has been 6 months and you have not left the house at all. I'm not even sure you've gone outside. So go get changed and let's go" Hailey said forcefully.
"You know I can't go out there."
"Yes, you can now. You have to get over this fear. Nothing is going to hurt you now."
"And how do you know that?"
"I don't okay. I just want you to feel safe again."
"Well I feel safe in my house and no where else so just leave me alone."
Jillian shut the door with some force and Hailey walked away. Hailey had tried to get her our of the house before but whatever she did, did not seem to work. She could not get Jillian to go anywhere with her.
As Hailey was walking down the steps she noticed that someone had moved in next door. No one had lived there for a little while. So she decided to go and say hello. She noticed that the person living there was outside so she walked up to the man and introduced herself and he introduced himself as Tom.
