"You're leaving already? Stay with me for a little while longer..." Ryuu didn't mean to wake Hanako from her sleep when he decided to sneak back into his apartment.
"Sorry Miss, but I have to feed my cat before I leave for the transport task at 4am." He lowered his head as he heard her sigh. "A cyborg taking care of a cat... Did they tell you to try and act more human or something?" Ryuu didn't reply as Hanako hugged him from behind. He felt her naked body pressing against his skin through the artificial nervous and sensory system—another one of the technological wonders—radiating heat. He didn't utter a single word as she broke off the hug and started picking up his clothes from the ground for him.
"The board of directors loved you. They said you're the future of the human kind."
"They did? Professor just dismissed me for the day and didn't tell me anything else." He wanted to ask the professor himself but decided against it cause it wasn't his place to do so as a mere tool at work.
"They might publicly release the project and start mass production if everything goes well within the next two years."
"I see..." The project second life was launched in order to aid humans, to give those who faced fatal accidents or those who had unrecoverable diseases another chance at living. If it wasn't for that project Ryuu wouldn't even be alive by now.
If his current state could really be called "living" that is.
Remembering the details of what exactly happened wasn't an easy task. Even though it was said that his brain wasn't that much damaged, all he could remember were the blinding lights of the Netro Tech lab when he opened his eyes. Due to the severity of the accident their only option was to rebuild him.
Colliding with another car at full speed was just unfortunate.
Maybe it was all a part of fate because the government ended up taking a chance after six more failed projects and finally succeeded creating him—the first ever fully functional cyborg to be made.
According to the police reports and other sources he was a college student living alone. He was last seen on his way to Jeju island with his parents before the accident. The impact killed both of his parents instantly due to the head on collision. Ryuu was in the backseat which reduced the amount of damage he took which was the main reason to why Netro Tech was successful at rebuilding him.
Damaged enough to rebuild, not damaged enough to die.
He couldn't even remember his own name or anything else after he recovered and woke up afterwards.
It was just like being reborn as the same person. With a new name and a purpose to live, leaving his past misfortunes to rot in his lost memories.
"What are you thinking about?" Hanako asked with a raised eyebrow, her hand holding a pile of clothes extended towards him.
Oh shit I spaced out
"Was just going through my schedule Miss." For some unknown reason this remark made her laugh.
"You really are efficient like a machine... oh wait you are one." His usual nonchalant expression remained the same. Ryuu was used to hearing this. No matter how many times the professors and engineers at the lab told him he was more human than he thought he was he didn't feel like it.
In his mind he didn't qualify as a human which was very ironic cause both the components that made a human into a human were there, completely unharmed and intact.
"This is why I like you Ryuu—" He looked at her with the same unwavering eyes that were manually set to blink occasionally so he could blend in with humans. "—You don't have normal emotions like humans. No matter how many times I call you to relieve my sexual desires you don't get attached or develop feelings." She smiled at him before placing a kiss on his cheek.
