"You were right Gwen.... you should never have come to see me..."
His words knived at her skin like daggers, his tone was cold and devoid of any emotion. His gaze, despite avoiding her crystal-blue irises, felt as if he has glaring into her soul. Gwen couldn't even comprehend the emotions she was feeling right now. Sorrow, hatred, disappointment. Not at him but towards herself for being such a failure. It was overwhelming.
A lump began to form in her throat as tears threatened to flood out of her eyes, she was on the verge of breaking down. She only just managed to suppress a sob as she covered her mouth and looked at Miles in disbelief as he had mirrored what she had said back in Mumbattan. She didn't mean it... did she?
The ongoing argument between Miles and Peter was only escalating, Miles's philosophy was being challenged directly.
"Kid-"
"Stop calling me that!" Miles interrupted in an aggravated tone.He turns to the hulking figure of Miguel, towering over the boy clearly didn't deter him.
"You can't ask me not to save my Father..."
"... I'm not asking." Miguel enquired sternly.
Suddenly, Miles was imprisoned in a hexagonal forcefield. The spectral scarlet tint of the barrier distorted Gwen's view of him.
She raises her voice as do Peter and Miguel as they verbally clash over the forceful methods employed by futuristic Spiderman.
Frantically panicking, trying to find an exploitable weakness within the structure, he turns to Hobie who is signaling him to use his palms. A convenient reminder of how he failed to utilise his energy absorption abilities earlier sufficiently.
Out of pure desperation, Miles sends a surge of power that explodes outwards. The venom blast shatters the force field instantly and he makes a run for it.
Gwen's pov:
Before I could interject further, I was sent backwards by a sudden surge of power alongside Peter and other surrounding Spider-people. I look on in surprise as Miles's gaze meets mine, our brief confrontation is cut short as he sprints off. Before I could even move a muscle, Miguel animalistically lunged forward like a predator, with Miles being the intended prey.
And with that, the chase ensued. Running alongside Peter, I watched in horror at the sheer aggression visible in Miguel's eyes.
"Miles..."
I muttered to myself quietly as I kept pace with the chase. The brawl with Miles and Miguel led us out of HQ, Miles had managed to shake him and the others off temporarily. My emotions and intentions were conflicted, I was hesitant but decided to pursue him. I saw Miles free-falling and used the opportunity to my advantage, shooting a web onto his chest while attaching the webbing to the building above me, holding us in place. Time seemed to slow down...
He shot a glare into my eyes, he looked... hurt.... betrayed... even angry (rightfully so). Immediately breaking the strand of web connecting us, tears began to form in my eyes as I watched him descend. I was left there hanging hopelessly, holding back my sobs as I came to my senses and continued pursuing him. I wish things could've gone differently...
Gwen skydives after him, thoroughly on his trail. Despite the external chaos that was occurring, the real conflict was within. The voices in her head were conversing back and forth, her self-blame and self-hatred was re-surfacing after years of suppression. She lost Peter... she couldn't lose Miles...
Fighting back tears during the whole chase made it even harder to focus, her vision blury and her eyes beginning to look red. His words echoed in her head on repeat like a broken record..
