It had been three weeks since estella had lost her eye. when she woke up a couple of days after her surgery, she was upset. she had no idea how she would deal with one eye. for the first week, it was hard for her to see properly, and she was clumsy on her feet and kept falling over due to her line of vision being interrupted. it was hard getting used to it, but she was slowly but surely getting there with small baby steps that were turning into big strides. judith had got her two eye patches from a run she went on with daryl, plainly for some eye patches for when she woke up. she got her one with cactuses on for the night time, and one with stars on it for the day time. it was sweet.
daryl had barely let estella out of his sight the entire time, which was stressful. she hadn't been out of the walls in three weeks, either. she wasn't used to that. she felt claustophobic, and she just wanted to leave for a little bit. daryl wouldn't let her, though. he said 'not until you're fully healed,' which she believed she was. it no longer hurt, and she could actually walk straight. she wanted to go out. not alone, though. she wasn't stupid. she knew that was so dangerous. it wasn't something she was willing to risk just yet.
so the most estella could do was find entertainment within the walls of alexandria, that people were still fixing up. she was stood next to the pond with kasper, hershel, and judith. they were looking for bugs, and since lydia was outside of the walls, estella had no choice but to also join in looking for bugs, as she had no other friends to hang out with.
"ew! there's a spider!" judith exclaimed, taking a couple of steps back, almost hitting estella in the process. "that's gross."
"they're not gross." hershel said back, walking up to the spider and letting it crawl up his palm, making estella and judith plaster a grimace on their faces. the two of them hated spiders.
"how can you pick up those things?" estella asked, taking a step back as hershel held the spider out to her.
"they're cute," hershel shrugged. "they're more scared of you than you're scared of them. they're just regular bugs."
"yeah, all bugs are creepy." judith said, as hershel handed the spider to kasper, who let the bug run up his bare arms due to the navy blue t-shirt he wore that he'd cut the sleeves off.
"no they ain't, they're cool. did you know that some spiders can live up to twenty five years?" kasper asked, letting the spider crawl back down into the grass next to the pond, running away.
"do you have weird facts for everything?" estella quirked a brow, making judith and hershel giggle as they looked at each other.
"not everything. just most animals." kasper shrugged. "anyway, are we collecting the bugs or what? hershel, did you get the jars?"
