Our Married Life | Severus x Tom One-Shots

Chapter 5: Come Back to Me

Severus lays in the bed that he used to share with his husband. Today marks the anniversary of when Tom's life was taken from him. He stands from the bed and makes his way over to the window overlooking the meadow. He sits on the windowsill as the memory of that day replays in his mind.

Severus was over at the Potters' residence for dinner. Lily was attempting to reconcile their relationship as well as helping him make amends with James. She had introduced him to their son, Harry, who was upstairs sleeping.  

She smiles, "I'm so happy to see you again, Severus. It means a lot that you and James are working on your relationship".

He laughs, "Well, it definitely hasn't been easy given our history".

She nods, "Still, thank you. Now, how's married life treating you?".  

He smiles as he looks at his ring, "It's amazing. He's amazing. Before I met him, I never understood the need to be with someone-".

James runs into the room in a panic, "Lily, you need to grab Harry and go, now!".

Lily stands abruptly, "What? Why?".  

He starts gathering some things, "Just get Harry and get out of here!".

Severus stands as well, "James, what's going on?".

"He found us. Pettigrew, the bastard, told him where we are and now he's on his way to take Harry away".  

Lily gasps, "I can't believe this, why would he take Harry?".

"Because he believes in that stupid prophecy, now go!". 

Lily runs upstairs, leaving Severus with a panicking James.

Severus stops James in his mad rush, "Seriously, James, what's going on? Who's coming to get Harry?".  

Before he could answer, the front door bursts open and smoke fills up the room. The impact pushed Severus into the corner of the room, out of sight of whoever was breaking into the house. He saw a bright green flash of light as the figure made its way out of the room.  

As the smoke cleared, he was horrified to be met with the deceased body of James laying on the floor. Realising that Lily was upstairs where the figure just went, he quietly made his way up the stairs towards Harry's nursery.  

Before he could make it all the way up, a hand covers his mouth and the other holds his waist.

He slightly panics before a familiar voice whispers, "Shh, it's just me, darling".

Severus turns to see his husband, whispering, "Tom, what are you doing here?".  

Tom sighs, "I got a warning about what was going to go down tonight. I had to make sure to get you out of here but I was hoping to beat him here".

Severus huffs in frustration, "Who is this him that you all are referring to?".

"Albus".  

Severus' eyes widen and realises that the green flash a few moments earlier was Dumbledore casting the Killing Curse on James.  

Severus grabs Tom's cloak, "You need to help Lily, she's with Harry".

Tom grabs his wand and makes his way up the stairs and to the nursery, Severus following close behind. Looking in the doorway, they see Lily standing in front of Harry's crib, Dumbledore holding his wand straight at her.

She cries out, "Please, spare him. He's just a baby, he's done nothing wrong".  

Dumbledore sighs, "I'm sorry, Lily, but this is how it must be done. Now stand aside and give me the boy".

Tom interjects, "You and that damn prophecy". Dumbledore turns abruptly, now casting his wand at Tom, "You're really going to kidnap and kill a child. And you call me evil". Tom walks into the room between him and Lily, "I will give you one chance to leave". 

Dumbledore laughs maniacally and brings his wand back, ready to cast a spell. The last thing that Severus saw was another flash of green.

Severus sighs as the tears start to roll down his face.

He whispers to himself, "Come back to me, my love". He hears a knock at the door, "Yes?".

A 7 year old Draco walks in, "Hey Uncle Sev".

Severus wipes his eyes and smiles, "Hey Draco. Everything ok?".  

Draco closes the door, "I just wanted to see if you were doing ok".

He holds his arms out, "Come here, dragon".

Draco runs over and sits on his godfather's lap, wrapping his arms around his torso.

He starts to cry, "I miss Uncle Tommy".

Severus sniffs, "I know, Draco. He'll come back one day. I'll make sure of it".
