Gem is a 23 year old reject turned villain. Quirk: Double Edged Sword. A mutation of a healing quirk that requires her to draw blood to heal. By inflicting injury like a shallow stab or laceration, she can transmute someone's pain into healing energy. This is catalyzed through the act of drawing blood itself. It sends Gem's life energy into a frenzy, like an electric charged aura that can entwine with another's. Using this energy she can manipulate their pain and cause an accelerated healing process. For example, she can fully heal crushed limbs or punctured organs by inflicting a shallow stab to the thigh. The more blood she draws the faster she can heal many wounds in one sitting. The drawback is that she cannot heal the wound she inflicted. Essentially she gives a wound to heal a wound.
Her parents, 2 renowned heroes, felt ashamed of their daughter's 'twisted' quirk. They viewed her as a mistake, a waste of a healing ability, and cast her aside as a disappointment. Her resentment, guilt, and shame grew each day until she was exiled from her home at 18.
Gem turned to a life of petty crime in order to survive. Once she learned her Quirk was useful to villains, it became her strength. Since healers are only ever Pro Heroes, teams of villains go without. For the first time in her life she felt useful. Criminals didn't seem to bat an eye at her reaction towards the sight of blood, and she enjoyed the company and conversation. The more she learned about the villain Stain, and societal power imbalance, the hotter her anger and resentment grew. She became involved with radical systemic revolution and searched for companionship in rebellion.
Before she knew it she was working for Giran, an underground broker, and had a small clientele of villains who depended on her to heal their deadly injuries. Through Giran and a hidden conversation, Gem is introduced to Kurogiri. He pleads that the League of Villains need a healer as they enter their most catastrophic era. Hesitant, yet excited, she agrees to a meetup.
