His nose was the opposite of Pinocchio's. Whenever he told the truth his nose would shrink. Before killing people he always said
"I am going to kill you"
So when he did kill them his nose would shrink. Eventually he did it so many times he eventually his nose shrunk completely.
However when he tried to kill Harry Potter since he technically lied (because he wasn't able to kill Harry) his nose grew a little which resulted in his snake-like nose!
