🕊️🫧🤍 ∿ CHAPTER 03
━━━━━━━━━━

FACETIME

"what do you want?" aaliyah questions as she sets her phone down on her kitchen counter so she could continue making her smoothie. "you're lucky i'm not on set right now."

"hello to you too," joe scoffs, jokingly.

aaliyah stops everything she's doing and gives her full attention to the man displayed on her phone, "hello to my best friend in the entire world!"

"that's more like it," he smiles.

aaliyah found herself getting easily distracted by the man on her screen. there wasn't a doubt, he was absolutely stunning and in all honesty, aaliyah felt like that was an understatement. any girl would be lucky to get the chance to call him their boyfriend. something's she's never had the pleasure of experiencing, but rather seeing other girls experience it.

"aaliyah.." joe says for the hundredth time, the only time the girl actually heard it. "are you okay?"

aaliyah quickly regathered her thoughts, "yeah, i'm fine, just tired."

she quickly noticed that he was somewhere outside, but there were bright lights that would appear in the camera every now and then.

"are you at the stadium right now? it's like, 11 pm.."

joe scratched the back of his neck, "yeah, we've got a game tomorrow. just wanted to get some last minute practice in. which reminds me-"

the girl already knew the next few words that were going to come out of his mouth, so she saved him the time.

"next week. i'll have a few weeks off from filming so i'll be home for a while."

joe was always eager to see his best friend. he'd always ask her when she'd come home again so that he could plan some days for them to spend together.

one thing he misses about high school was how much time they had together. although he was a year older, he still enjoyed the three years he had with her. ever since they both graduated high school, they went their separate ways and both found themselves to be successful.

although they missed each other, they always rooted each other on. they used to call every night after splitting ways. eventually, they both had gotten too busy to call every single night, so now it'll be every now and then when they speak to one another.

"sweet. okay i don't wanna keep you up because you do in fact look exhausted.."

aaliyah giggled, "go finish your practice."

"yes ma'am," he saluted.

the girl shook her head, "goodnight, j."

"goodnight, aly."

the call ended and the girl felt butterflies at the nickname.

she was always used to her friends calling her lia, rather than using her full name, but joe had told her one day he wanted to be different. he wanted to use a name only he called her by, so he chose aly.

it didn't matter how many times he called her that. she gets flustered every time. and she knew there wasn't anything there romantically, but it just showed how much he cared about the girl. how much effort he put in to make her happy.

and recently, thats all she's been able to think about.
