The snow was unforgiving. Both the boys slowly walked traversing the hilly mountains in front of them. It was hard to breath for Tanjiro. Still emotionally tired from the debacle earlier, he felt relief in the fact that at least there was someone to accompany him apart from his sister he was carrying on his back. Ayanokouji walked silently, his focus elsewhere. As the blizzard intensified, Tanjiro faced Ayanokouji, "I think it was a bad decision leaving the house in this snow Ayanokouji San."
"Please drop the honorifics Tanjiro, and it wasn't a bad decision. It would hurt you even more if we had stayed in that house. And moreover, even though we have dressed her wounds, your sister still needs to see a doctor."
"I guess you're correct. But again, thank you for helping my sister out there Ayanokouji Kun. I don't know what would have happened to Nezuko had you not saved her back then."
"Hmmm"
Ayanokouji hummed tuning himself out from the conversation. He could feel it.
Tanjiro shifted his attention to his sister. She looked peaceful in her deep slumber. But... Something just wasn't right. She had a scar on her head when he had rescued her. But it seemed to be normal again? Was it hallucination? A scar like that cannot heal in such short span of time.
"Ayanokouji Kun, did you no..."
He suddenly stopped.
He could sense something heading towards them at a rapid pace. He could feel the overwhelming power emanating from the person. This wasn't good.
"Ayanokouji Kun we ne...!!! Ayanokouji Kun!!! Where are you?!!"
Ayanokouji was nowhere to be seen. Tanjiro had no time to investigate as the person approaching them was just a minute away from them. Before he could think any further, he heard a demonic growl. Within moments, Nezuko sprung upon him, twitching, and groaning in an animalistic fashion. Tanjiro lost his balance and both were sent hurling off the mountain path down a cliff. Tanjiro couldn't make sense of anything right now. The scent of Nezuko... was no longer there. No, it had never been there from the very beginning. The moment he saw her earlier in Aynaokouji's arms, he couldn't sense Nezuko. But he lied to himself. He even lied to Ayanokouji. Was this person really his sister?
Both were protected from the fall due to the thick snow. Tanjiro slowly looked up to see his sister standing at a slight distance from him. Tanjiro, still a little jarred from the fall,
"Ne..Nezuko, are you able to walk on your own??"
But there was no response. Nezuko was looking down on the ground emanating a sinister aura around her.
"Nezuko! Can you hear me Nezuko?!"
Suddenly Nezuko sprung onto Tanjiro in a violent manner, prompting Tanjiro to thrust is hatchet in her mouth to defend himself. He could see her fangs now, sharp, and deadly ones. Her eyes were bulging displaying an intent to kill. Tanjiro, was scared, scared of seeing his sister like this. What was wrong, why was she being like this?
Then he remembered old man Saburo's words. His description about them fit Nezuko's current action. There was no doubt about him. Nezuko had become a demon now. But his sister could never kill rest of his family. She loved them more than anyone in the world. He had sensed another scent there apart from Nezuko and Ayanokouji there. A much much sinister scent. A scent which was eerie enough to be associated with death. Nezuko suddenly growed in size making it difficult for Tanjiro with each passing second to contain Nezuko. Tanjiro is unable to comprehend the scenes in front of him. The realization that his entire family is dead, and even his sister might not be the same anymore is emotionally exhausting for him.
