I  long for those days,
Lounging in the carat shed
Hearing waves crashing on the shore
The  cool salty breeze caressing me

When innocence coated my glasses pink.
And the world as I think,
Was filled with goodness and laughter
And there were endings
Like happy ever after.

My greatest concern
was beating my younger brother
In a road race
Even though he was so much taller
Finally declared winner.
And slipping some milk and sugar without getting caught.

Propriety strewn out the window
Running around in my underwear
And if I dare....
Even without.
Dashing down the beach
Doing cartwheels in the sand
Helping the men pull seine
Caught fishes slipping out my tiny hands.

And that sandpipe
Where some of the happiest times of my life were spent
Bonding moments with my mom, my aunt, my cousin.
Where sadness didn't last long
Quickly rebound and move on
to the other mischief planned

Starlight fireworks every Christmas
Flung into the air
Twinkling and slowly dying away
Signaling the end of another year.
Moments like these would forever live on
in my heart
Memories of a time gone
Will never depart.
