They stared at the book in their hands, dwelling on whether or not to open it. Could this book really have the answer they've been searching for after all these years? After a few more seconds, they decided to wait until they arrived home. They walked up to the checkout desk at the front of the library.
"Just this one, dear?" The elderly librarian asked.
"Yes, thank you." They replied, "Have a good day, Ms. Clover."
"Thank you, Yao, dear, you too! Safe travels." She exclaimed in return.
Yao smiled as they pushed the wooden doors open, walking out into the bustling street. Although Yao has never gone to school, they had predicted this since it just happened to be the first week of winter break here. Holding the book tightly in their hands, they walk down the crowded roads, avoiding bumping into anyone from outside of their small hometown.
Eventually, they made it back to their small cottage close to the outside of the gate to the main portion of the town. They built most of the cottage themselves. Although most of the cottage was still intact once it was able to be sold to them, it still had holes in the wood, large and small, shattered windows, and a very, very busted roof, after many years of work, all that was fixed and patched up. After adding a few personal touches, for example, baskets of daisys hanging from above the front porch leading to the front door, and a nice pair of rocking chairs and a small table. Even though the table and chairs have never been used by anyone other than Yao, the house finally started to feel like a home to them.
Yao unlocked the door and walked inside the cottage. They threw their house keys on the hook next to the door and flicked on the lights. The cottage was fairly small. It had a bathroom, a bedroom, and a small kitchen and living room.
Sighing, Yao placed their stuff down on the small wooden table next to the door. Yao began to make a small meal for themself, but soon their anxiety began to overwhelm them.
All they could think was; what was possibly in that book? Could it solve all their problems? Would they finally be done searching after so long?
Eventually, they finished dinner and quickly ate up. It was finally time to open that book. Yao grabbed the book. It was old; the pages were bent and were made out of very outdated paper. The cover was torn and was a dark shade of green.
"Please..Please.. Let this be the point where I can stop searching.."
Yao opened the book. Their eyes widened at what they saw.

Yay! I posted something after ages! I'm so sorry I've been so inactive! As always, writers block and my motivation have been on the downside.
I hope it's finally back again because I'm very excited to make a book dedicated to one of my OCs! This oc was heavily inspired by a GCMV of Bitter Choco Decoration by •Keiko• on YouTube! Although I tried to add my own twist to it, hehe.
If anyone is interested, here is the link to the video! I highly recommend watching it, as it is really entertaining, along with all their other content!
Lastly, let me know if I messed up on any grammar or pronoun usage! I really hope Grammarly was on my side while writing this. Hehe.
See you all next time!
