Learning the Rules

Monday arrived, and it was time to go back to the real world. Ava and Nick had grown closer over the weekend, and Ava felt attached to Nick. On the last night of their honeymoon,  she started having nightmares, and Nick was concerned for her mental health but also that she may rebel due to her still grieving for Jesse. “Ava, we need to talk about a few rules before we get back home “, Nick began, knowing this wasn’t going to be a fun conversation.  “Okay”, Ava answered. “Look, I don’t want to control you, but until this situation with Forsaken is taken care of, I have to make sure you are extra protected. That means no going out right now. The girls can come to our house, but I need you home and safe”, Nick began. “So I am being caged?”, Ava asked. “Don’t put it that way. It’s just until we take Vincent down”, he explained.  “I’m supposed to start UC next week”, she replied. Nick took a deep breath. “No, Ava. I’m sorry. Not now”, Nick said. Ava didn’t say anything. She just silently let the tears roll down her face. She knew Nick was protecting her, but now her life was in a bubble. “So I can’t start my internship either?” she asked. Nick gripped the wheel because he knew this was coming. Jesse didn’t want her to take the internship in the first place, but he had caved and said she could. “Not right now”, Nick answered. “I need to text Alex then”, Ava said, pulling out her phone. “Alex?”, Nick asked, not hearing this name before. “Yeah he’s in charge of me in the internship.  I’m supposed to meet with him tomorrow’, Ava said. “And you were going to tell me this when?”, Nick asked, a little annoyed. “Jesse knew, so I thought you did”, Ava said with a shrug. “About the internship but not meeting some guy. Don’t text him. I’ll handle it”, Nick said between clenched teeth. The thought of her meeting with a guy alone enraged him. He doubted Jesse knew about that part. “Jesse didn’t know, did he?”, Nick asked.  Ava looked out the window.  “No but it doesn’t matter now, does it?”, she snapped.  “Actually it does, Ava. You were going to go behind Jesse’s back. Do you know what that means? You were going to break an RR rule when it came to being his fiance, and now you’re my wife. No woman who is with an RR member is to be alone with any guys not in RR. You are a target at all times, even with our crew being one of the good ones. And you were going to go without telling me too. I know there is a lot going on, but you can’t ever do that Ava”, Nick said, trying to calm his temper down. “You’d punish me?”, she asks, knowing the answer.  “Would Jesse?”, Nick asks back. Ava didn’t say anything because she knew Jesse would have flipped. “I’m sorry Nick”, Ava said with a sigh. “I was just told if I didn’t meet with him, I wouldn’t get the internship “, Ava said. Nick furrowed his brows in confusion.  “Who told you that? “, he asked. “Alex. He said he was in charge of me and we had to have a meeting”, she answered. Nick scoffed. That perverted bastard. He wanted Ava alone, Nick wasn’t stupid. And neither was Ava, but she was naïve. Jesse always said she saw the good in everyone, which made her even more vulnerable to the dangers of the world. “Ava, he was using that as a way to get to you “, Nick said. “Why would he do that? “, Ava asked, upset. “You’re a pretty girl, and my guess is he has done this before. Let me handle it, okay?”, Nick said a little calmer. “Okay” she answered and continued to look out the window. Nick pulled into his and Ava's home. It was Nick's that he had earned from being in RR just as Jesse had earned his. Jesse didn't want Ava living in his home with Nick because he knew it would be a trigger, so he gave his house to Carlos. "The house definitely needs the touch of a female, so you can do whatever you like. Just let me know, and I'll give you the money. Jesse also left you everything he had except the house, so this week, we will sort all that out. You're set for life, Ava. You will never have to worry about anything, okay?"Nick said as he helped her out of the car. "Okay," she said softly. Nick couldn't help but stare at her for a few moments. She was more beautiful than the day before, and she didn't even try. She had chosen to wear a green sundress that was just plain and simple, but she made it look like the prettiest dress he'd ever seen.

Nick led Ava to the front door and opened it, standing aside to let her in first. Nick was right. The house needed a makeover. "You can research what you want and make a list. I'll have it delivered here. I need to go put for a while, "he said before turning and going back to the door. "Why can't I just go?" Ava asked, knowing the rules.  "Ava, we talked about this. Call Kia and the girls to come over or something,  just don't leave, "Nick warned before shutting the door behind him. Ava sighed. She didn't want to be cooped up. She decided to go ahead and find what she wanted for the house after looking at all of the rooms. She even bookmarked some books she wanted to read since she would be home for a while. Ava pulled out her phone to call Kia. "Ava! Are you back?" Kia asked excitedly.  "Yes. Can you and Chelsea and Elena come over? "Ava asked. "We can meet in town if you want," Kia said. "I can't leave. Nick's rules, "Ava said quietly. Kia sighed on the other end of the phone.  "You will be with us, it's fine," Kia said. Ava was reluctant because she didn't want to upset Nick anymore than he already was, but she didn't want to stay inside. "Fine, but I don't have a way. Nick has my car at Jesse's still, "Ava admitted. "I'll come get you," Kia said before hanging up. Ava waited patiently for Kia to arrive.

Kia pulled into Nick's drive and honked for Ava to come out, which she did. "So we are just going to meet at Fernando's, sound good?"Kia asked. "Sure," Ava replied,  not really in the mood to talk at the moment. Chelsea and Elena were waiting out front of the cafe when Ava and Kia pulled up. "Ava!"The other two girls screamed in delight as they ran to her and engulfed her in a hug. "Let's eat, shall we?"they asked. The girls walked in and sat down, but someone caught Ava's eye, and her stomach dropped. Nick was staring right at her. He was sitting across from a couple of RR guys and looked like they were speaking business. "Damn it, Nick's here," Ava says panicked.  "He didn't know?"Chelsea asked. "No, he wanted her cooped up, but I told her she'd be fine with us," Kia said, annoyed. "Are tku crazy, Kia? Not only will she be punished, but so will we, "Elena said in a loud whisper. Nick stood up with the other members and walked over to their table. "Ava, get up now," Nick said coldly. Ava stood up, not wanting to make a scene.  "Garrett, make sure these three get back to where they should be. José,  you know what needs to be done, "Nick said with a pointed look. Garrett and José nodded. "Nick, it was my idea. I told Ava she could come since we were with her. Chelsea and Elena didn't know, "Kia spoke up. "Ava told you the rules, and you went against them. I'll be contacting Hugo, "he said before gently taking Ava's arm and leading her out of the restaurant.  "Nick, please, don't blame Kia. I could have said no, "Ava said, not wanting her friends to be in trouble.  "But you didn't," he said, stating the obvious. He opened his car door, and Ava got inside. Her stomach was in knots. The drive back to Nick's was intense, and Ava didn't dare say a word. When they got home, Nick's demeanor changed. He led her to their room, where he shut the door and then roughly kissed Ava, causing her panties to be wet.
