Chapter One - Aurora Mitchell
Rushing to finish packing, I sang along to the various songs playing on my phone. Some Jack and Jack, others a mixture of popular songs I enjoyed.
Jack and Jack were big here where I lived. Them appearing on television was normal and a common thing. Never once did it surprise me that they were on our local nighttime news.
I was the lucky one. My local radio station was holding a contest. The prize? Two tickets to DigiTour Sacramento. I won the small contest, only having to answer a few questions about Jack and Jack, which were easy.
What's Jack Johnson's middle name?
Easy. Edward.
What about Jack Gilinsky's?
Easier. Finnegan.
Sacramento was only an hour from where I lived, making it easier to convince my parents to let me and my best friend, Aurora, go. They told me that it was a privilege to go and I wasn't just going to be handed their trust. I had to earn it.
They left me home by myself for a week while they went to visit my aunt Korey in Washington. If I behaved, no parties, only friends over, I was gifted with their trust. If I threw parties and had more than friends over, my tickets were confiscated and sold on some weird website.
I behaved, keeping my tickets, and earning the ability to use my brother's car to get us to the venue at which DigiTour was being held.
Aurora had spent the night before, making it easier to get up and leave early the next morning, so I didn't have to go out of my way to pick her up, since her house was the opposite way we needed to go.
She was currently laying on my bed, playing her phone as she always did, not helping me pack.
"Aurora!" I laughed, smacking her phone out of her hand. "Help me pack."
She groaned, locking her phone, and standing up onto the hardwood floor.
"I thought you packed last night?" She stretched her arms, almost hitting me in the face.
I swatted her arm away and walked towards my closet.
"I kind of packed last night." I yelled from my position in my closet.
"Are you really bringing this?" She held up a neon pink crop top with a disgusted face.
"No." I whispered, throwing it back on a hanger, and putting it in my closet.
"What about this?" I held up a black, short sleeved, lace dress.
"Too dressy."
I sighed.
"Then you pick something out." I laughed, throwing the dress at her.
She picked the dress up out of her lap and made her way into my closet. She emerged a few minutes later with three outfits.
Two of which I had no idea I even owned.
"This one," she pointed to a chevron jumper. "Is what you'll meet Jack and Jack in."
The other outfit, a pair of denim, high waisted shorts and a black tee shirt, was apparently for lounging around the hotel and searching for Jack and Jack. The other was almost the same, just different shorts and tee shirt. They both had a cardigan to place over if it ever got cold.
"Thanks." I folded each article of clothing and placed them into my suitcase which was nearly half empty. Or in Aurora's case, half full.
I placed my black gladiator sandals, my all black Vans, and a pair of worn flip flops on top of my outfits and slammed my suitcase shut.
